Differences between Sport and Ultra Prem.
Hey, I love Lexus and I'm very interested in getting one of these trucks. I just need something affordable and cheap to bring camping.
(Sorry if this is the wrong section.)
I was wondering..
1.) What's the difference between the Sport package and Ultra Premium Package?
2.) What is the ultra premium package?
3.) Which is the best to get?
4.) What kind of prices would be a good deal for any year model of this vehicle?
Anything I should look for?
I repeat, sorry if this is the wrong section to ask. I'm a newbie, and I can't seem to find the answers over google...
Thanks for the help

The GX470 did not come in an Ultra Premium package. The only things one could get when purchasing a GX470 was a Navigation (which gave you also Mark Levinson Audio), Third Row Seats, Rear Entertainment, KDSS (available on MY2005 +), and Adaptive Variable Suspension (this pretty much came on all gx470's)
The GX460 however has two model trims. (9700) GX460 / (9710) GX470 Premium ... I wont go into detail on these because these are the GX470 forums.
The only Lexus vehicles that come with the Ultra Lux package are the ES/GS/LS.
references: I work at Lexus... I specialize in the GX and LX.

My local Lexus dealer told me I have an Ultra Premium package on my GX470, maybe it's a Canada only thing? ML audio package, navi, backup camera, rear DVD entertainment system, etc.

As for your other questions, as a camping car and value bargin.... No offense, but this car isn't for you. GO look at an 02-05 Chevy Tahoe or Suburban. If you want soming more "sporty" the Jeep Grand Cherokee works just fine. If you want Luxury utility, Land Rover Discovery Series 2.
The GX is a great vehicle that can deliver all the drivers needs and wants without complaint. If you've never driven an SUV before, the GX is not for you.
If you have a big 401k, pension, or savings account that your looking to burn through, BUY A BARGIN BARN GX470!
These cars need attention, like an obedient retreiver dog you need to pet them every now and then. Its crucial to get all the service history on these cars. Bargin GX's sometimes have spotty repair histories. Also, the major services 30k/60k/ and most importantly 90k need to have been done.... otherwise without a 90k your engine is a ticking time bomb.
Air suspensions on these cars are slowly starting to degrade with age.. This means you should look into what the average cost for a suspension repair/replacement costs. Its not cheap... Mine just set me back $1,100 last week.
Again, not to offend, but something "affordable and cheap to bring camping" is not a GX470, unless you really want to get rapped in repairs because your "bargin GX" was trashed by a previous owner.
I am a big offroad and adventure guy.. I bought a 2001 Land Rover Discovery as my cheap offroad vehicle. Land Rovers by nature don't hold their value well, allowing you (and me) to buy them rather inexpensively. I paid 6k for mine, and it was in MINT condition with 67k and was the HSE package. Consider looking at those.

I don't know how Lexus packages the GX470 in Canada however here in the states we get the following packages:
[NV] - Navigation system w/ Mark Levinson, rear backup camera,
[RE] - Rear Entertainment system - Roof mounted screen, 2 wireless headphones, remote w/ holster, and center box mounted single disc DVD player.

Do all GX's have heated seats, or is that a Canadian market thing? Which ones came equiped with the rear spoiler, was that a certain year it was added, or a dealer add-on?

The Spoiler and Exhaust tip were port installed options. It was also a dealer add-on if requested.
There are two internal codes for both the spoiler and exhaust tip, however they just recently changed and I forgot them ;/

As Jafch1 mentioned the 90k service is very important, but make sure that the timing belt, water pump, and seals were changed. As I found out from the service manager when I was shopping for my GX, the scheduled maintenance is a recommended which some people don't follow.

yeah the GX isnt cheap but its definitely an offroader. We've taken this thing down some pretty serious 4 and 5 star trails and it hangs with every other vehicle out there.
We usually go camping for 3-4 days at a time and usually only have to load up the interior and some of the roof rack and we're good to go.
