CAN it be changed? sure....
is it worth it? ......
if you wanted to change that you would have to wire it so that the cig lighter is always receiving
power from the battery no matter what position the keys are in.

also, (Currently) the car doesnt have to be running for the lighter to work, the key just has to be
turned to the acc or on position.

Super easy to do:

http://www.toyotawiki.org/index.php?...wer_Outlet_Mod

You can have both 12v (cigarette) and 115V (trunk area) be on all the time. Comes in handy when charging cell phones, laptop, gps, etc..

You can quit smoking AND need to charge your phone with the truck off.

It's not supposed to work when acc is off. It's an easy fix though. You'd have to rewire it to a wire that vas constant 12V. You should be able to find one of those in the wires that go to the ignition switch. Do not mess with any cables covered in yellow wrapping. These are for the airbags and they may deploy if you mess with them. I am actually considering adding a constant 12V cable to my car to charge my phone when dead by just leaving it in the car. I am however debating in whether or not that is safe to do. Will a constantly live power outlet create a fire hazard? I am not planning on having anything connected to it, unless I need some cell charge in an emergency. Anybody?

No, it's perfectly safe to do so. Porsche, along w/ some other mfgs, have constantly hot cigarette lighter receptacles in their vehicles. This facilitates a readily accessible connection for a battery maintainer as opposed to directly connecting/disconnecting from battery each time.

Good luck

Good!!!! Then I'll probably rewire my overhead phone charger cable to a constantly hot wire. Does anybody know if there is an always-hot cable that runs along with the bundle that contains the power cable for the rearview mirror in the GX (above overhead console near the sunroof)? I could use the cables that power the overhead map lights, but they are hard to find because they are mixed up with the auto-sunroof cables and they are difficult to find with a volt meter. I was messing with that harness and got a constant 12V reading so I tapped to it. Shortly later the constant 12V was gone. Another wire had a 2.5V reading and when I proved the sunroof opened on its own.... So.... I did not mess with that any more.

Does anybody know which are the hot wires that power the map lights? What colors? Thanks!

I wired my camera to that box and they constantly was hot, which was wrong for me. I rewired it to the rear view mirror compass +12V.
For you might be easy way to wire to the dome lights, i can't recall right now which wires i wired it to, but I can take a look tonight

Which one was constantly hot? I wired to the rear view mirror power wire but that one is switched with the ignition.
