Default GX 470 Mechanic

I recently purchased a 2005 GX 470 and much to my dismay the Dealership that I though was reputable was anything but. I took the car into Lexus of Easton and found out that it needs over $5000. worth of work - new radiator, water pump and CV joints. I'd like to see if anyone knows of a good Lexus mechanic outside of a Lexus Dealership where I might be able to get the cost down somewhat.

You stated purchased recently, depending on how recent you should be able to have the dealership fix those problems. In Massachusetts most vehicles come with at least 30 days and a lot have 60-90 days bumper to bumper. In the event you are not covered most Indy mechanics could handle the repairs you mentioned. Sewell Lexus has great prices and offer discounts to Club Lexus members. Another option would be aftermarket parts from Autozone, Advance Auto, Pep Boys etc.

yes your dealership should warranty the GX for 30 days I would think , otherwise try the Toyota Dealership Service ,

Why does it need these repairs? Did they show you evidence that the radiator was leaking or that the water pump was bad? Have you inspected the cv joints yourself? Or listened for any grinding or clanking while moving or turning?

I'd be willing to bet that the Lexus dealership is telling you these repairs are necessary because the vehicle has driven a certain amount of miles and they are just going to sucker you into purchasing repair services because the dealer recommends them based on the mileage.

In any case, 5000$ to replace the water pump, radiator and new axles is ridiculous. The waterpump kit can be purchased for about 300, each axle another 200$(oem), and a radiator is 200-300. So you're looking at maybe 1k in parts and 4k in labor?? seems ridiculous.

The last time I checked, the price for doing the water pump replacment was about 1300 at my local lexus dealer. This replacment usually invovles removing the radiator so placing a new radiator in at this point should already be included in the labor.
