For those of you who are new GX owners, what kind of gas mileage are you getting?

About 18 mpg for first tank, mix of 50% freeway miles and 50% around town (giving friends rides to show off car!)

That's great. As the motor breaks in I am sure the mileage will improve too.

I have been averaging 16.5 with mixed driving. I am pleasantly surprised.

The engine has a tremendous amount of torque and most of it is at low RPM's.

It's the whiny cars that can move, but that have to accelerate to 3 and 4k RPM's to do so around town, they really burn gas mileage.

On the highway at 70-75 the engine lulled at around 1900-2100 RPM's. Quite low.

i think so... i wouldnt beable to put anything else in there... also how much is a fillup? i am still running on my first tank

I always use premium as well. Someone told me a long time ago you get better gas mileage with higher octane fuel. Not sure if that's true.

I'm on my 4th tank. About 700 miles on it. No longer a baby :-(

Owner's manual says you don't have to run premium. But I have not used anything else but premium.

I have 1000 miles and I am averaging 15-16 mpg. I do a mix of highway/city but I thought it would have been a bit higher.

Well see what happens over the next few tankfuls.

The only reason to use premium fuel is if the engine requires it. The purpose is to prevent engine knocking. If the engine does not require it than you are wasting your money on premium.

As I said someone told me long ago that this was the case. Higher octane burns cooler and they said because of that the engine burns the fuel more efficiently.

I know for sure higher octane burns cooler but the latter I have not checked.

You are correct which is why some cars require it for knocking. However, again if your engine does not require it, than it really is a waste of money.

Interesting that a local Lexus salesman here said it was required. Above it would seem that it is not. Frankly I didn't expect it to be with this particular engine. I'd trust the book over the salesman.

My MDX with an advertised 17city/23hwy gives me about THE SAME gas mileage you're getting (around 15-16mpg) for mixed city/highway driving ......and one of the reasons I chose it over the GX was for the gas mileage . What you're getting is very good for the advertised 15city/18hwy. Check out www.acuramdx.org and you'll find that most there are dissappointed with their city mileage.

However, I do get great gas mileage (around 23+mpg) for pure highway driving which, I guess, is the MDX's forte

Hey all,

For the LX and GX (and Toyota 4runner), the 4.7L V8 can run on 87 octane without problems apparently, BUT Toyota RECOMMENDS premium fuel. This is according to official Toyota literature.

In my opinion, use premium whenever possible.
