i purchased my gx about a month ago. i have been researching with little success upgrading my navigation. i guess my question is if all i can do is change the dvd (and if that changes features or just upgrades maps). or if i can get a later model navigation unit to upgrade and maybe be more user friendly? any answers or advice would be greatly appreciated thank you for your time

thanks have you heard of anyone actually upgrading? or if there is a difference between a 09 as compared to an 04? I am mainly wondering because I don't have blue tooth

I have an 04 with the 2012 update installed. The update was already installed on the navi when I purchased it so I am not sure if there is a difference. From using the search button, I believe the only updates are the maps.

Taco, when you upgraded to the current dvd version, does it just upgrade the maps, or will it also update points of interest? Thanks

I believe any of the update disks would include both updated maps and data points/points of interest. What would be the point otherwise?

When I updated my wife's 08 RX (Gen 5) to 12.1 on the maps,the only nav update I noticed was it got rid of the annoyig "I Agree" screen. Now the warning pops up for a few seconds and goes away. Other than that, the POIs and roads were updated.

I drive an 06 GX with the original maps. Nav is Gen 4. I plan on updating it soon to the 12.1 and was also wondering about any firmware updates or if it was only maps and POIs.

Guess I will find out unless someone has already done this.
