Looks like the GX is getting great reviews, but how did Car and Driver place the VW SUV higher than the GX?

Teutonic bias and their belief that it is a Porsche Cayenne but cheaper. The magazine writers don't take into consideration reliability and quality.

Motor Trend (January 2003) has the GX470 rated as the top luxury SUV, over the Land Rover and Lincoln Aviator. Motor Trend (December 2002), has picked the Volvo XC90 as the 2003 Sport Utility of the Year. No VW was tested.

Not sure where MT rated it #1, at least if they did, they have a funny way of saying it...Something like "a great blend of offroad and luxury". Motor Trend should just come out and declare a winner...Without a winner, why did they waste their time and energy comparing those three vehicles? Boy, the Land Rover sure is a DOG!

About the best Motor Trend could do is say, "The one that does it all, however, is the Lexus GX 470". That might be because of their comment, "Rear 'barn' door swings the wrong way". Sorry, I just can't believe the designers at Lexus, thought this would be the right thing to do.

The rear door is exactly the same around the world, where in other countries the car is the Land Cruiser 90/ Land Cruiser Prado. Seems like designers did not bother to change the door to match American taste.
