Default Muffler replacement stock or performance?

I need to replace my stock muffler on my 04 with 98k miles. I was looking at using a performance muffler that is quiet but has a nice mellow to e on acceleration. I love the sound of the stock muffler but the price is steep. Wondering if anyone tried the quieter flowmaster 70 series muffler. The only direct non oem replacement I've found was the Walker quiet flow. Anyone done a muffler recently?

I haven't done a replacement of the muffler on our GX but have done so on a couple of other cars. Its a fairly simple job especially if you do use oem or direct fit non oem.

Here is the breakdown of the GX's exhaust if your interested'

Id try to find a OEM muffler if you want it to be quiet inside of the cabin.

I was going to go with a Corsa sport or touring 3" muffler but it wouldnt fit even if I removed the muffler heat shield. I know Magnaflows will fit but Im not a fan of the drone they produce. If you get a 22" Magnaflow the drone might not be too bad and theyre pretty cheap. Id cost you maybe $20-$30 for a muffler shop to replace and weld the new one on.

Did yours fail? If so, how so?

FWIW, I had a Magnaflow muffler installed on a new Ford Ranger we bought several years ago. The sound was perfect--at first--but it got louder & LOUDER as time went on. What was a pleasant engine sound under accelleration became a roar, and the drone at highway speeds became totally obnoxious. This was after less than 10,000 miles. In addition, gas mileage only increased about .2 mpg--hardly noticeable. Never again.

BTW, a primary reason we bought our GX was because of the quiet cabin. Personally, I do NOT want to make it any noisier, but that's your choice.

The tail pipe assembly rusted and broke from the muffler. I just had the job done, they saved the factory muffler and installed a Y-pipe after the axle with 2 seperate tailpipes with 2 chrome tips. The tech even added a 2nd cutout for the bumper. I'll add a pic soon.

yeah, I'd like to see that. I've thought about a gibson catback replacement or doing a super aggressive electric cutout into a twin tip setup like you've got. One tip would be the OEM muffler and the other tip would be straight through, for when I chose to let the beast out.

My exhaust came out great, local guys in the North Shore BayState Muffler. Sounds the same from in the cabin but a little more throaty from the rear exterior. I paid $375 for the job, which was ok. Now if I can figure out how to download a pic from my Iphone

Dynomax turbo is a very quiet muffler. Go with the largest cannister that you can fit and don't increase pipe size more than quarter inch and you should be very quiet but with a tad more throatiness upon acceleration. I've tried them all....

I've had a Gibson catback exhaust system installed on mine for about a year and a half now.
It's not overly loud and definitely sounds beastly when the car is started. Also, no annoying hum while on the freeway either!

Here is a short preview.
Btw, that sound at the end is one of my dogs barking, not the engine/exhaust, lol!

I will post up one of me driving on the road next time.
