All the information I used to install this was done searching the threads here in this forum so thanks to all!

Yeah, you made me jealous :-)
This is not an option for me.... mine is NAV equipped
Good job, well done. With that front and rear cams can you actually do recording or just viewing ?

Didn't the alpine unit have it's own steering wheel interface?

Thank you! -- I'll probably write on up from all the different threads I pulled. There was a bit of confusion which screws you actually had to remove to actually get to the actual harness and how to properly remove the multiple-display unit. But once I got it all removed, it all made sense.

The front and rear cams will probably be later. I just wanted to get the unit in before I took a 14-hour roadtrip to Banff National Park in a few weeks. I'd really love a wide-angle front camera. Rear camera will be virtually required once I pick a travel-trailer to tow; It'll make hitching a LOT easier. -- I don't think the cameras have the ability to record, unfortunately, unless I missed that info on the Alpine specs.

It's only supported via 3rd party solutions. Alpine recommended Soundgate and PAC. I just went with the Axxess AWSC instead and it auto-detected just fine. It was virtually plug-in play. However as a note, I did have to permanently cut three wires on the 20-pin factory harness for the steering wheel controls (not the primary audio factory harness which plugs straight into the SLA-81) to wire it up to the Axxess. (Obviously, you could always wire them back so leave some slack when you cut them).

Volume. Up and Down and Mode buttons work perfectly with the Alpine.

Cheers,
Kermee

Kermee,
Any chance you remember what color wires and where they are located that you tapped into for the ASWC? I've wired up the SLA-81 and it all works with the Clarion NX702, just want the steering wheel controls of the volume as a bonus.
Thanks,
J
PS- if anyone else can help, I'd appreciate it. I'm working on a SLA-81 photo tutorial as we speak.

Can someone please post pic of the climate control wiring harness and plugs of a non-nav gx? I am currently attempting to swap my stock nav for an aftermarket, but ran into an issue swapping the climate controls because they use different plugs. Please take pics of plugs and wires and also the back of your climate control so I can post a write-up

By any chance... do you have a pin-out for Axxess ?
I called to them, they said that i'm not going to be able to install the control.

I used the instructions located here. -- It auto-detected the steering-wheel controls just fine.

Thanks.
Just contacted with customer service, found out that there is 2 20-pin connectors. And i used the wrong one (main connector).
Need to use smaller connector.

Good job Kermee, looks great! Be sure and update us on the long term reliability of the Alpine, I had one in my 4Runner that went out after about four years so I switched to JVC.
