one way you can try, just keep on pressing (without counting) very fast, until you suddenly hear a long beep. that should do it

Surf,

Glad you got it all working. Getting into set up mode can be a little fickle... Don't be so concerned about the 2 second thing, it's more about the button presses. You need to make sure it's distinct presses of scan button, not necessarily rapid succession pushes if that makes sense.

Good luck and enjoy your new XM

I used the GX to go to my mom’s house and back on Saturday, 180 miles each way. I also had to make a side trip to see a friend who was moving from Oregon to the Palm Desert / Sky Valley area. I’m very good at finding my way around but I would have NEVER found that place without the on board GPS. The XM didn’t lose signal more than 3 4 times the whole way, which is better than the setup in my F250. I guess it’s all about antenna placement. The thing that bugs me, and I can’t figure out why they do this, is that when you have a station on and then turn the car is off and you restart it the station is not the same as you had. It comes up on a different station. I don’t know why they would do that. My other two cars don’t do that.

The VAIS in our ES doesn't do that. It stays on the same station no matter how many times the car is restarted.

A call to VAIS tech support seems to be your next step.
