Take a look at this thread. You may not have the correct middle mointing plate for the hitch.

Look at the picture that shows 2 different center mounting plates. You may need to buy the one that is different then the one that you have.

KODA4 - that's a great call out!

When I was trying to install the hitch it felt like the issue was the center mounting for the pintle - I even opened the rear most mounting holes on the hitch a tad too see if it made a difference and it did.

I will try and mount the hitch by the rails only and see if it's extending past the center mounting by 1/4" - 1/2" which would be corrected by this other mounting bracket.

If it is the bracket it looks like I'll need to pull the back bumper - yay! Hopefully no more broken bolts

Finally getting back to the hitch - big shout out to KODA4 as it looks like I need a different bracket.
