Lexus and BMW

Joining my 04 GX470 in the garage are a 08 535xit and a 02 330cic (a SUV, wagon and convertible).
It's just a matter of time before I flip the GX for a x35d -- that thing is a beast.

We have both (v8 x5). Totally different machines. Fun to switch between the 2 actually. I insist on driving wife's GX at least once a week just to make sure it's still in one piece. I swear she wouldn't notice if it was missing a wheel.
GX drives much smoother. X5 is a monster but gets cramped fast. My old Audi alloroad had more room.

I have owned 2 Lexus vehicles including my GX. I sold our 08 IS 250 for a 11 335d and I could not be happier. Over the first 5yrs of ownership it will cost you more to maintan the Lexus only because BMW covers ALL maintenance for the first 5/50k and that includes wear and tear items like brake pads, rotors, windshield wipers etc. That being said, generally speaking BMW's are just not as reliable so the cost of ownership over a longer period of time eg 10 yrs will pivot in Lexus's favor and more so for some models like the X5 which has developed a particularly bad reputation over the years. I intend to keep my BMW for a while but I will not do so without an extended warranrty. With my Lexus the thought of getting an extended warranty is a distant memory and I would not have any concern going another 100k with this truck.

Call me biased (and thats because I am )
But regardless of any cost related comparisons, I am tired of the BMW "thing" All their cars have (with in reason) the same interior, the same console, an alarming similar exterior? To uniform for me.
Get some blind folds and get in a BMW and tell me which one it is, just try. (Excluding the dimensions)
To get something unique over there you have to fork over an additional heathly check to those boys in the M department . Those are cool cars.
Lexus is not like that, although they are slowly creeping towards that direction. GX is different then LX and the RX. All the sedans are completley different (now, that new ES looks mighty close to the new GS)
And I know we can just have a sound off on the cost of ownerships

It is cheaper to maintain the Lexus. I just did the 60K Inspection 2 on my M3 last year and it cost $1800. I also spent another $1500 for new brakes( front+rear), new fan clutch, rear trail arm bushings, oil change, and new sway bar brackets. That is $3300 and I will be needing new tires soon.
