Default Main differences between the GX and LX/Landcruiser?

Besides the $20k price difference LOL.

Anyone know the main differences? Seems like the motor and running gear are the same, not much difference in the interior either. I was told that the GX is a pimped out 4Runner versus a scaled down LX/Landcruiser.

Thanks.

The GX shares the same platform, brakes, as well as some other less significant parts as the 4Runner as one would expect seeing how Lexus is owned by Toyota, but a pimped out 4 runner it is not; they are two very different vehicles on many levels IMO. Otherwise I would have bought a 4-Runner and saved $.

The GX shares the same engine and drivetrain as the Landcruiser/Lexus LX. An obvious difference is interior room, where the LC/LX has more interior space, it's longer and has wider wheel base. If you need the extra space, go for the Landcruiser, otherwise the GX is a fantastic ride.

This is correct. The parts that you see and interact with in the cab are much nicer in the GX, but almost everything underneath is the same, with a few exceptions (i.e. suspension).

The 1st gen GXs should be getting to a price level that is affordable on a 4-runner budget.

I said almost everything is the same...that may be stretching it. The components that make the truck go forward are the same.

everyone just forget the most obvious difference... the 1st gen gx470 looks classy and the 4runner does not... well worth the money imo...

Overall, the Landcruiser is more like a "tank!" It's a little more solid from my experiences with owning the FJ models, but after '98+ they got a bit too luxurious for my offroading tastes.

Gibson catback exhaust huh? Do you have a sound clip up anywhere? Did you notice a performance gain with an intake and exhaust? It's my wife's ride but I love me some V8 sound. What did you pay for the intake and exhaust if you don't mind me asking???

The main difference is that the GX and LX are built on different platforms.

1st gen GX is built on Toyota 120 platform that it shares with 4th gen 4Runner, FJ cruiser, Prado, Hilux, and Hilux Surf, IIRC...

2nd gen LX is built on J100 platform that is shares with Landcruiser.

When it comes to comparing GX to its closest sibling - Prado is the closest. You would be hard pressed to tell the difference if both were debadged (depending on the trim, of course). 4Runner is very closely related to GX; GX offers a lot more luxurious and quiet ride than T4R. Both are equally potent off-road warriors.

True that we drive pimped out 4runners, and I love that. I just about bought a 4runner when I bought my gx in '07. The extra head room won me over. I could do without the lexus badge.

I've always loved the Land Cruiser. They are absolute tanks; built to withstand natural disasters. They weigh ~1000lbs more than the GX, and while a bit of that is additional length and width (a few inches in both directions", the rest is a beefier, stiffer frame and running gear. I love stuff that is clearly "over built" for my needs, and the land cruiser is definitely over built. So is the GX for that matter, but not to the extent that the Land Cruisers are.

Let me just say early I love my GX470! Best truck on the road

I will point out that the GX470 and the LX470 were more similar trucks in comparison to the new wave of GX460s and LX570s.

I briefly looked at the LX when I bought the GX, but the square design didn't thrill me and I will concede that the LX470's interior is nice but the GX had that touch that won me over. Love the exterior too.

I will also concede that if I was going new, and I probably never will, the LX570 seems to kick the you know what out of the GX460. They don't really seem to play in the same league anymore with more guts and braun in the LX570. The GX seemed to lose that after the refresh, IMO
