Default Truck in for a few things.

We will see how this goes. Dropped it off last night to see if they can diagnosis the mystery sound on cold start-up I have - along with a few other members - along with a rear drivers side door that intermittently doesn't unlock.

I have little faith they will solve or repair either, but it just isn't in my DNA to look the other way when there is something mechanical that can and should be fixed.

What does it sound like at cold start-up? Dumb question but did you check your oil?

I had a cold start ticking that was the manifold gasket/ catalytic converter, sound low on oil til it warmed up

Another thing to look at is the manifold(s). I know on my 1st gen Tundras, alot of manifolds would crack and youd get a ticking noise at start-up. Sometimes it would seal itself once it warmed up, sometimes it wouldnt and youd need to get new ones or aftermarket headers.

If the tick goes away once it warms up it could be piston slap too.

A couple of times, mine sounded like a diesel for 30s on real cold starts when left overnight. Chug, chug sound.
Dealer couldn't duplicate (per usual - do they even try?!) and no codes came up. Said it might've been bad gas, but they admitted they were guessing...

Hasn't happened for more than a year, which coincides with me reminding my wife to put in prem gas.

I had a slight rattling sound, dull knocking. Went away after warm up when engine smoothed out. Missing fasteners on the plastic motor cover panels. My sound was more near the dash board. Ticking sound, would be as others mentioned, exhaust gasket.

The door locking sounds like the solenoid. Others have taken theirs apart and cleaned/ lubed.

If I throw mine into gear (reverse) when cold with the foot still on the brake, I get a knocking sound. goes away when warmed up, and it's been doing it for 67k miles w/o any obvious side effect.
