Default Tire pressure sensor question?????

I am in the process of getting tires for my wife's 2004 gx 470 and i before i do so i need to resolve the tire pressure light staying on. The spare tire had a TPS but it broke off. I had a local guy remove tire take sensor out and replace with standard air valve for the time being. The question is this.....does the monitoring computer sensor the spare tire as well???? Also what is the easiest way to test for a bad tps without bring to dealership?

thanks

Yes, the spare tire is monitored. You are likely getting a light because you removed the TPMS from the spare.

Ask your tire shop if you can purchase a new unit for the spare and if they can reprogram all 5 units into the GX. Otherwise sounds like you might be in store for a trip to the dealer.

TPMS. More hassle than its worth in my opinion.

Thanks for the reply but the problem is I had the light on before I took down the spare and broke the tps. I couldn't get the air cap off and using a pair of plyers just broke it. So...I'm not sure if the spare tire tps is even brok causing the light in the first place. Is there a way to figure which other one is broke? You never know it could have been the spare the whole time. Thanks

If youre certain the air pressure in your other 4 tires was good, likely the pressure in your spare was already low and that set off your TPMS warning light. Then you had it replaced with a non TPMS valve and the light never went away. I can almost guarantee that is/was your problem.

When I bought my truck, my light was on as well. I checked all my tires and all were good. Damn light wouldnt go out. Checked my spare while still mounted under the truck, and it was a few lbs short. Inflated it and bingo, no more light and it never returned.

Replace your valve with a correct one then inflate to proper pressure and Id bet youre all set.

I found a tire pressure sensor on eBay that will replace the bad spare one. Once I get it I will I stall it in the spare and see where I stand if it resolves the issue turning the light off or not. Will keep everyone posted. Thanks for all the help!

Default TPMS Sensor replaced at Discount Tire

I just got a new TPMS sensor at Discount tire. when I was getting four tires put on. They told me it would not release pressure and should be replaced. They ordered one and put it in the next for $60 plus tax. They had to reprogram the unit. Had a few issues getting everyihing set up but they were great. . They gave me a lot of conifence they knew what they were doing.

Definitely more trouble than it's worth, just one more reason for you to have to take your truck into the dealer. Take the light bulb for the TPMS warning out of the dash, problem solved, forever.
