Just got a 06 last week with only 13,010 miles, any other newer one like 08,09 with higher mile ( 70/80k) all show more or less age inside and out. My 06' even smell like new car. My wife is very happy with it! I'd said go with the which ever is better condition not worry about the mileage or age.

Again, with the miles, even though a Toyota, does have a factor in the decision. The poster said they were thinking 15-20k per year and keeping it for for 5+ years.. That could be +100k to whatever the miles are at purchase. I'd still lean toward a low miler like the 06 above. It would have 113k vs 180k 5 years from now. Of course all of this is based on condition and access to the maintaince records.

Any '07 or newer will make you very happy, particularly with the 5th gen Nav system and dedicated AUX stereo input.

You are the voice of reason and I really appreciate your honest opinion. This is exactly what my dad has been saying and he is strictly against this also.

I agree with you to some extent. But my situation is that with my price cap at $28k or $30k out-the-door, I want to get the best value for my $. If this car didn't have a good (perfect in this case) service history, I would have considered staying away from it because it would have been a like a time bomb waiting to explode. But with EVERY 5k miles service by Lexus from the very beginning until 85k miles - it had been pampered and very well maintained. If there was a car right now with 40-50k miles with options and color combination that I wanted, then I may have reconsidered. But after 3 months of research and finding nothing until now, I thought this is the best one that I found so far. Plus I wanted to get the car search behind me and move on to more important things.

I drove to the dealer yesterday which was almost 3.5 hours away from me and bought it. The car is VERY clean and looked almost new. The dealer has agreed to do the 90k miles service and will do everything that needs to be done and change ALL the fluids including transmission's.

They will deliver the car to my home on Wednesday. I'm very very happy and looking forward to it. I will keep my fingers crossed and hopefully with everyone's help here will not run into any serious expenses.

Congrats on the purchase! At the end of the day as long as you are happy that is all that matters. The history is a major issue and as long as it has good service you will be fine. My only thing was the future resale but who knows, you may keep it forever as these things tend to run that long.

The 06 engine as far as I know is the same as of with the same power output. From 05, the engine was updated and since then remained the same for the life of the 1st generation. The GX has also had a 5 speed auto since it was introduced as an 03 model, so there again, nothing new for 06.

$1000 for 1 wheel bearing replacement?! Was it packed in caviar and made of diamonds and platinum?

Congrats on the new ride! And that was an excellent call on the 90k servicing. That timing belt replacement is a killer in terms of cost on labor. Did they do the water pump while they were at it? Just curious. There has been some debate here about whether or not this is worth doing. I opted to have it done on my '03 at the 90k interval in addition to the timing belt, simply because the engine was already apart at that point and I plan on keeping her pretty much until the wheels fall off.

Yes, I asked them to change the water pump as well and they did.

When the car was ready the service adviser commented that the timing belt looked like it could go another 100k miles, but there was a very small leak in the water pump so it was good that it got replaced now.

My boss has 180k miles on his 4.7L. I said that it was about time to have the second timing belt changed, he said Timing belt? Nice. So at 180k miles it got the 90k mile service. Borrowed time.
