What did you do to your GX TODAY?

Thanks, its my brothers garage he was awesome and helped me swap the transfer case (I did help him install the lift which was also alot of fun). We are car guys lol so it just seemed right. I wish I could fit one in my garage but the problem for me is width you need like a car and a half width for the 2 post lift. with the SC300 on the rack it can easily go up high enough to stand under it... not so much with my GX or his landcruiser but it does make wheel/suspension work much easier and still doubles what jackstands can do.

Nice lift! its great having a lift and an extra set of hands to do transfer case swap. They are heavy little beasts, especially awkward to handle if you're doing it on jack-stands laying on your back.

I've likely got the room for a 2 post, but only 10 ft ceilings, and of course the garage door openers hang down another 14" or so, meaning I could lift the GX an entire 2" or so, totally not worth it for the ~$2500 a cheap one costs. Plus daily parking in a bay with a lift is a PITA, I'd want a 3 car garage before it made sense.
It would be better for the car if it would get low enough to get underneath it, but my Land Cruiser is exactly as tall as the GX (to the crossbars) with the sunroof deflector on it, and it's lifted 2.5" on 33" tires! Way more ground clearance, but the same overall height.

He has a LC 100 series. We just threw on a lift, has the 18" tundra wheels w/33's, Custom tundra sliders, Custom front bumper, Light bar, usual fun stuff. His LC is really coming along I need to get working on the GX
BTW very nice 80 series you have there, just saw a few pictures in the "So you drive a GX, what's your other car" thread. looks very sharp.

New AT3 with fj wheels 265 70 17
Installed left over toyota fj wheels from my fj (bought 4runner pro rims for fj) and at3 tires. Ebay is doing $100 off if you use paypal + $70 rebate on at3 tires. Shipped for $430 for 4 tires. Paid $160 for installation with road hazzard warranty at Americas tire.
265 70 17 fits without rubbing with these wheels. At full turn, about 3/4 -1/2 in clearance.
I think these wheels stick out 10mm more each side. At 70 mph, slightly more loud than Mich cross terrain 265 65 17. That is with radio off. Can't hear it with radio on.
The gx sits 1/2 in higher.

Put it in the sky! Picked up an idea on another forum about trimming an inch off the top of the running boards and putting it back on the truck. Makes for a very clean look and you get kind of get a front rock guard back. My snorkel is somewhere in the middle of the Pacific in a shipping container and should be here sometime next month.

Gassiper it looks great in that size. are you running spacers to fit those 285's? you sure its not 285/70? did you do any trimming?
I just picked up a set of those tundra wheels with the 15mm offset and trying to find the largest tires I can fit on there with a 2.5" lift. I wanted to run a 285/70, but I thought it might need too much trimming/work, can you give more details please I am about to buy tires next week, thanks.

Today has been the best weather day we've had this year. Did all the maintenance checks on the GX. Found that the battery hold down bar was loose and as a result, the ground wire from the negative battery terminal to the fender well sheared off. The cable is very short, so a sliding battery is not good. There must be a decent secondary ground because the GX was running fine with the broken wire. All fixed now with a new cable and gold plated crimped and soldered lugs. I made the new cable 6" long - almost twice the length of the original. Oh yeah, also tightened the battery clamp!
Might want to add this to your maintenance check list.

sorry. it is a 285/70. no spacers needed. I went with the IronMan 3.5 lift and needed the MetalTech airbag kit. rides better than ever! I have had these tires on a few wranglers and have always been happy with the ride and performance. sitting still and turning to full lock their is no rub at all. in motion, their was a small rub on the fender well at the front but nothing major. just a small trim and its gone.

thanks for the response gassiper, I really appreciate it I was about to go 265/70 or 275/70 because there were no good examples of fitting the 285's on there with factory style wheels.
Hopefully with only the 2.5" lift I can still fit those 285/70/r17 tires I think I am going to give it a try.
I found a set of the tundra/sequioa 17 wheel the offset is 15mm vs the GX's 25mm, so it will push things out 10mm more you might want to look into a set. its the only other toyota wheel I like besides the GX one so I am glad it has the better offset and is a good looking wheel (especially when painted or dipped). hopefully that will do the trick with the 2.5" lift. will need to figure out the spare situation but maybe a 267/70 will do for short distance and air down the other side.
Cleaned the 17's thoroughly yesterday, they are off a 2006 tundra, its GX related since they are going on there next week =)
