how long did the job take Chip? You use a Denso replacement? I haven't paid attention, but are there tranny lines connected to it?

I paid the dealer ($1000) to do it, and went with factory (previous one lasted 10 years, which isn't bad).

If you have the towing package, there's a small transmission cooler mounted in front of it - I think all they have to do is unbolt it and swing it out of the way. No need to drain any fluid.

There's also the A/C radiator/condenser. Not sure if they have to do anything to get it out of the way (don't think so).

I saw it today when doing all my differential and TC oil. Also did brake fluid flush and deleted all the keys and reprogrammed them and a new one. Busy day. Thanks

That sale on wiper blades at rockauto is hard to beat. $1 to $3 each for good quality blades

Replaced the radiator on my GX with a Denso part. The 10 yrs old OEM part slowly leaked on the top for a while. Last week it started dripping on the bottom section. It was to replace. A couple notes may help other's DIY.
1. The radiator two lower mount bolts need a extended wrench (about 12") to access fromthe front bumper grill.
2. There is very limited space to access to the bottom clamp of the lower coolant hose. I have to take the upper clamp off and removed the radiator with the lower hose attached.

Doing some wire tracing today and came across this helpful chart. None of the GX wiring PDF's list the color code. Most colors are easy to figure out, but the L = blue got me.

On a related matter, I have dedicated a flash drive for GX470 tech data. I keep all the PDF's and maintenance information on this flash drive. There's a program called snagit that lets you cut and paste from the screen and save as a .jpg. Can even save entire scrolling windows of a long maintenance procedure. Snagit works great for saving sections of a post for future reference.

Here's the GX wire color code:

I changed out my rear propellor drive shaft today, I was tired of the "clunk". The entire process took less than one hour. The driving dynamics have really improved with the switch. I also took time to change our my speedometer glass (plastic). The previous owner must have consistently dusted his dashboard with leaves and twigs to cause that much scratching on the lens.

Bought the Husky liners for the front and second row seat. I chose the grey one so that the dirt won’t be too obvious and the 2nd row mats come in one piece so the middle section will be covered also. Best of all, 4 wheel online gave me a good deal on this set of Husky’s.

Roemer:

How hard is it to change out the gauge plastic? Do you have the part number for that piece? Mine looks pretty bad also.

Changing out the gauge plastic is super easy. First, remove two plastic clip-screws (it will make sense when you see them) under the top lip of the dash, just above the gauges. Then there are a handful of pressure clips to release the outer bezel that surrounds the gauge cluster. After removing the bezel, there are five or so more clips that hold the plastic lens to the front of the gauges. The whole process takes less than 10 minutes. I think it was a worthwhile upgrade.

Here is the link to the Sewell parts website. The part number is: 83138.

I didn't realize the gauge glass was that cheap. Mine was pretty scratched up when I bought it, so I used the polish from the headlight restoration kit to clean it up. But had I known it was only $35, I certainly would have just replaced it.

I finally replaced the O-ring in my water inlet pipe that was causing me to lose coolant. Only took about 2 hours, but a good portion of that was cleaning the surfaces to re-apply the FIPG sealant. I actually lost more coolant doing this job than I thought, probably 1/3-1/2 gallon. Seems to be sealed up fine now, but I'll be watching my coolant levels for awhile to be sure.

I lubed the driveshaft and did an oil change. Added 1 quart of MMO to the oil and 6 quarts of Mobile 1 0W30 synthetic oil. This is the first time using synthetic in this truck and the first time ever using a 0 Weight oil.

Has anybody changed the rear bumper reflectors to LED? I did yesterday. It completed the look from the rear. I also put in new HID's for head lights and fog lamps 5000K. Very clear driving at complete darkness at night. And also put in some LED's for the step boards, park lights and license plate lights.
