Default Awful citrus smell

The dealer in all of their infinite wisdom filed my GX with this awful citrus smell before i bought it. Did anyone else have this happen?

The guy at the dealer told me they injected it into the AC system - so I might just blast the heat and blower on high in an effort to get the smell out.

I am sure it will dissipate with time, but in the interim it is so strong it gives me a headache.

I had my AC system flushed and deoderized once, but it was something I paid for due to mold growth on my evaporator coils. Smelled quite nice and clean afterwards.

Did the dealer flush your system or just spray a deoderizer down your fresh air intake vent during the dealer prep? I wonder if they are trying to mask some oder?

A trick my detailer friend shared with me is to get the vehicle up to operating temperature, then crank the heater with the A/C on. Leave all the doors and windows shut for about 10-15 minutes. Then, shut off the car and vaccum the inside out. This should eliminate 50-60% of the smell and not cost a dime. Well gas I suppose.

He had if I can remember right, a deionizer machine that he would put in the car in leiu of running the engine and vaccum after but that was for smells in the carpet and seats.

yeah i think i need to blast it and dry it out. we are up in here in the oregon rainforest and if you are not deliberate about drying this stuff out it will stay damp and smelly forever.

I would check to make sure they didn't spray or set something on your cabin filter.

yep, i am going to buy one, pull the old one, and then reinstall a new one after a good heating of the ac system and an overnight soak with some baking soda in the truck.

I agree with cssnms that the dealer was trying to hide some kind of odor.
