Default Buying a used '03/'04 GX HELP!

I’m looking to purchase a used 2003-2004 GX 470 with NAV option soon.

A few questions I’m unsure:

Do you know if 2003 have back up camera or just 2004 only?

Also, I look at the 2004; the engine said “4.7L DOHC SFI 32-valve V8”
While the 2003, the engine is as “4.7L (286) Quad Cam EFI 32-valve”

Anybody knows the different?

For the '03 GX that I was interest in, when looking at the service records done at a Lexus dealership, the description was as followed “03 & OLDER 8 CYL
70,000 SERVICE: 70,000 MILE SERVICE ALL MODELS: REPLACE ENGINE”

What is “REPLACE ENGINE” means? Just a matter of description or it meant as an engine was replaced?

Any problems I should know about '03/'04 GX 470?

Thanks.

Here's some info on the different model years.

"replace engine" could have been "replace engine oil"
hard to tell without seeing it.
lots of info here, just search.

My '03 is fully optioned out and there was no backup camera offered as far as I know. Not sure about the double vs. quad overhead cam. I'd have to dig through the documentation. Also, that service message would have been about the engine oil. I doubt that I would have missed a recommendation to replace the whole engine

The back up camera was introduced mid year 2004. I have an early build(11/03)2004 and it has NAV without the camera. Pisses me off because It was advertised as having a rear camera and never checked before I bought it. Too expensive to add camera and software to mine. To answer your questions on 03 vs. 04, I believe there are NO differences, other than rear camera in late build 04's. As a matter of fact when i buy parts for my GX I use 03 as the year for bulbs etc. I noticed that later in 04 they changed to different bulbs etc. and they dont fit my early 04. Either way its a great truck, and good investment if there is such a thing in buying a used car/truck.

Um. Why? The 05 has the same engine and tranny. Nav update I will agree with I guess, but I'm not obsessed with the thing. It's there, it's updated.

The 03/04 had nothing wrong with them either. Few less ponies, the 03 didn't have the sealed tranny but other than that I don't think there were many other updates.

I was looking at 06-08 but I ran across my 05 with 19K miles on it. Easy choice. Plus in my little brain, my color kicks *** and isn't available after 2005.

Must be the Blue Meridian. Nice color, always wondered why it wasn't carried over. Same thing with my Silver Pine Metallic- IMO a great color, changes color with the sun.

"Replace Engine"? Are you sure you finished reading the sentence or turned to the next page? Shouldn't there be an "Oil" after that remark? I have an 03, am I due for an engine swap?

Yes! ..and YES YES YES!!! The Silver Pine Metallic is FANTASTIC!! I have the Blue Meridian. I honestly thought I was going to go look at nautical blue but when I saw the BM, I fell in two seconds. I was looking for the SPM but I couldn't find it with decent miles.

Both of these colors deserve consideration for a comeback on the 2012 GX460. And the best accessory to bring out the colors are factory chrome wheels IMO.
