Default Roof Rack Removal?...

Recently bought a GX about a month ago and was looking for a way to remove the roof rack , assuming that those plastic covers pop off on both front and rear of the racks and the bolts are under there? Any advice will be good, thanks.

I believe someone posted a DIY. Try searching, I know there's a DIY on the RX forum. Sewell Online has the "covers" for the openings.

Heres the diy for the rx...very similar and the correct parts you need to plug up the holes.

Here are the part numbers and prices I was quoted at Sewell today. Being as the GX has 3 attachment points per side vs. 2 per side on the RX, we need a few more parts. I did not verify if the parts are the same with the RX or not, but this is what I got from Sewell for my GX.

These are the part numbers for a 2004 GX470! YMMV!

6 COVER, ROOF DRIP MOU, part 7559602020
$5.83 each, 6 total for $34.98

6 BRACKET, ROOF RACK, part 6318542020
$2.28 each, 6 total for $13.68

12 BOLT, W/WASHER, part 9011908C47
$0.72 each, 12 total for $8.64

This is my first time dealing with Sewell and I have to say, I am really impressed by the communication and timeliness of their responses!

Please post some info and pics w/the results. Did you source the GX covers, or are you going to try to make the RX ones work?

Well, I am not sure yet! lol

When I emailed Sewell and inquired, I forwarded the parts list for the RX as listed in the other thread. Sewell replied that those were RX parts, and I needed xxx parts for the GX.

So I am assuming they are GX parts....... I will let you know when I get them. I will take pics and alter the write-up if needed, etc, etc.

I should get the parts today or tomorrow. I am heading out of town Thursday for 10 days, so if they don't arrive today or tomorrow, I won't have time to deal with it until I return. However, I will post when I get to it....which could be 2 weeks.

Just wanted to check in and report my findings.

I removed the roof rack and installed the parts listed above. I can confirm that the parts I listed above are the correct fitment parts.

I was a bit rushed and did not take pics...sorry about that. But the uninstall of the rack and install of the trim parts, etc. is pretty easy to figure out.

The only "gripe" I have is that the trim pieces that cover up the holes are bowed upward more than the rubber it sits on. This aint really a big deal as you will never see them per se. I just thought it odd that they were not matching...but whatever.

I will TRY to take some pics of the finished project soon and post them. I will take a pic of the covers that I griped about too.

All in all, I am pleased with the results. The GX looks cleaner and sleaker now, IMHO. Prolly save 0.00001 mpg due to decreased drag too. lol
