Default Bad A/C Clutch .. repair or unit replacement?

Gents -

My 04 GX has about 113k on it and the A/C clutch is shot, making a ton of grinding noise when its engaged (when the A/C is on).

Has anyone had to repair or replace there unit because of this? I see online the ability to buy just the clutch pack for the A/C compressor. However Lexus and other sites want to sell me the whole A/C compressor.

Question being, can I get away with buying the clutch pack and installing it onto my OEM a/c compressor? Or do I buy a new compressor?

Thanks guys!!

Are u sure it is the clutch assy, or could be the blower or the expansion valve seals. If you are sure, yes clutch pack can be replaced. let us know the outcome. Just to give you heads up, there was TSB issued for your model fitted with dual AC. And certain improvements were sent out to mod the seals and the replacement of expansion valves.

I have looked in the TIS system, however my symptoms do not match those of the expansion valves.

When I turn on the A/C I have a grinding noise from the engine compartment. You can see the clutch slipping if you stare at it. Once you press the A/C button to deactive it, the noise will stop.
