Last week I did the Differential oil, I happen to compile it so that it becomes a easy one for members to do this at home. Quite Simple and you can save the dollars. All you need basic tools. These are effective for 2003 Onwards to 2009 GX Models Cheers

How many miles on your GX470? If this is not the first time you change the diff oil, how often do you change it.

I changed at 75K. This is the first time, I have changed it, The dealer till the warranty expired was only doing an inspection and top up. I decided to have the complete oil replaced.

Thanks Mann, just the info I am looking for as my 04 is reaching 65k miles, I have been thinking changing it.
It is it necessary to change the plugs?, I know the gaskets should be.

I did mine at 65k and I also did the transfer case since it is the same procedure as the diffs and same fluid.

The reason I went was prior to the change the dealer long back had done the oil top up, could be an apprentice done the change, but I observed was the all the Plugs had a bit of damage, I suppose the Hex 10mm was not seated properly in the slot, there was bit of metal shavings out, I had to ensure to get this job done have it replace, cost just a few bucks. Only One thing you should ensure the first time to remove, you have to give a few shots with a Fibre mallet on the plugs to make the grip bit loosen, then it all becomes a peice of cake.

Lexwoody - in that link you posted witht he thread on changing fluids and greasing the ujoints can you explain a little bit more on why they use different greas for different parts of the driveshaft.

The blue zerk is for the slipjoint (apply moly grease to it) and the green the U-joint (normal Lithium grease). There is 3 zerks on each drive shaft (front and rear) (one slipjoint by transfer case side and 2 U-joints). On the U-joint keep pumping grease till you can see the new grease coming out of the u_joint then wipe clean all the excess grease. This is why I like the pink Mobil 1 grease as it is easy to spot.
