Default Backup sonar sensors

We have a new 2009 GX. I like the backup camera but would also like to have backup sonar sensors. I prefer sound warning only (no dash mounted electronics!!!). Does anyone have an aftermarket recommendation? Would addition affect warranty?

Smile Just put in a sensor system

I just put 4 in my rear bumper after I backed into a post. I got them off of eBay and paid about $35. I did not buy the system that had the LED display. We have them in our Audi and at first thought it was an expensive add-on. (About $300 from Audi if I remember properly) Anyway we have really come to like them. Realizing that I would not have backed into this 18 inch high post in the dark I ordered them and put them in.

It is not a tough project. It took about two hours to drill the bumper, partially remove the bumper cover and wire them. I painted the sensors the body color. Wired them to rear back up light and put on an on/off switch for when we have the bike rack on the back. They work great and I would not be without.

"I just put 4 in my rear bumper after I backed into a post"

Did you have a working backup camera when you backed into a post?

If you have a hitch receiver you can do a plug-and-play sonar step as an easy no-install add on. I use one on my Tundra when we're not pulling the trailer for my wife's track car.

It's about $100 (on ebay) and maybe $150 just googling places that sell it. Just search for Dolphin SonarStep.

Install was very fast and easy, pure plug-and-play with no wiring or cutting anything. I assume the GX hitch is standard size and has a 7 pin connector although comes with adaptors for others. Comes with a hitch lock as well and is built sturdy enough to serve as a step up into the back.

It's wireless and there is a little dongle that plugs into the cigarette lighter in the cabin. Need to make sure not to plug it into one of the 12v outlets that stay active or it will stay on and I assume drain your battery.

Smile Link to item purchased

I was asked to send informaiton on the sensors I bought. Here is a current ebay link. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Safet...Q5fAccessories

This is a long long link and may not work. If not here is the title of the listing. -
Safety Backup Reverse 4 Black Parking Sensor System NEW

I know they may seem to cheap but they work and really were not that hard to put in. The hardest thing is 1. swallwoing and drilling the bumper (for goodness sake make sure you scope out where you are drilling. You need some clearance behund the cover). 2. Removing trim to loosen and pull out the top of the bumper to run the wries and check the clearance. 3. Pulling the right rear trim panel in the cargo area back enough to get to the light, mount the control and speaker. Add a swich as I did to wherever you want to turn the system on and off (if you plan to tow or use a bike rack.) Good cheap mod. $24.60 plus $10 shipping. Al
