Thumbs up GX470 takes top honors in 2009 JD Power & Associates Rankings

The GX does it again!

While the Lexus brand took the overall top slot in IQS rankings, overall Toyota faired very well, taking 10 out of the 18 vehicle segments (Lexus 5, Toyota 4, Scion 1).

More importantly, the 2009 GX470 took top honors in the Midsize Premium MAV category.

Midsize Premium MAV
Highest Ranked: Lexus GX
Lexus RX
Cadillac SRX

The initial quality is simply amzaing in the GX, long term reliability is very good too. Technology is a bit behind the times, but hopefully the new GX will fix that.

I believe the GX engine has been quite reliable, as I have seen some of them have ridden nearly as 200k miles and still smooth. I absolutely agree, Yes there are other lexus that have pampered me, but the GX still is on the top of my list. Keep it up

Porsche took the second place. So if you belive JD Power report, you would believe that Porsche is more reliable then Toyota and Honda.

Porsche makes great cars, and if not for kids I would be driving 911, but Porsche is not known for reliable cars . You can make any excuses for Porsche been on the list, but same excuse would work for Lexus as well.

So sorry, but "Initial Quality" is more or less useless rating.

Kuttsy, you are right, initial quality has nothing to do with long term realibility. Porsche was in 11th place in the JD power 3 year relaibilty report, which is pretty good considering that they push their cars to the limit in their designs. Porsche as a car company have made hugh advances as far as reliability is concern, but you know as well as I do that a 500 hp Porsche 911 GT twin turbo is not going to be as realiable as a 120 hp Corolla

Well, I disagree with your rather broad generalization of the value of initial quality rankings, but to each their own.

Honestly if a 2003-2009 GX470 can still beat the competition that has to say something, when will people wake up and stop buying Land Rovers and other SUVs OY

Yeah, but when it comes to a 500hp Porsche to a Corolla, what do you want to be in when cruising for tail?

JD Powers is a joke. Everytime you see thier logo in an ad, the company who is advertising pays JDP for the 'privilage' of posting. Never a good sign.

I started with Toyota's on the recommendation of Consumer Reports, not on the CR ratings (which were great of course), but the most telling of all: Consumer feedback. Thousands of actual owners telling what they think of the cars they bought. Thats the bellweather of knowledge.

In my own opinion I think that JD Power is the joke too.Three or four month ago, they rated Buick and Jaguar as the most reliable cars. Number one was Buick, number two was Jaguar and number 3 was Lexus.

When people compare Porsche to Toyota, Porsche is not a daily driver like Toyota. Most people who owns Porsche drive less then 6k miles per year.

Take the rankings for what they are worth. Nobody is claiming that JD Power & Associates is the automotive bible. Why not just enjoy the recognition that your GX is receiving, it's better than alternative!

Whether you take JD Power Associates rankings into consideration during your new car buying decision is up to you. Point is, it's one more resource that is available to consumers to help them make a more informed decision. Additionally, I have found there are a lot of similarities with regard to initial quality rankings and long term quality/reliability rankings with many vehicles.

I agree, the '08 GX470 I purchased 3 years ago is the most trouble free reliable vehicle I've ever owned. Thinking about getting another one with the prices so reasonable and getting better daily. I'm blown away, as this seems to be a secret for most...

I bought my 08 gx470 for my wife new 52k sticker 46k +ttl. Best car ever. Still drives like new. Only thing I replaced was radiator and dry rot air bags. 155k still going strong and doesn't burn any oil. I've been trying to find a low mile one for myself. If you ask me, 03-09 are better than newer models. New one's have bench seats in the back for 68k. No thanks.
