60K service - $340 - found other expensive issue - didn't get scr...
I took my baby in the for the 60K service recently at a local toyo dealership. I found out that my neighbor across the street is a master lex tech and now works for the toyo dealership. I got him to work on my car.
The dealership charged me $340 for the 60K service which wasn't too bad. While working on the truck he noticed a dead caliper so the dealership called me and asked if they could fixed that....they quoted $1,200. I was like what???? I didn't notice anything on the truck in terms of braking. I told them no, just do the 60k service and I'll have my brother address the brake issue.
A 2 hr trip to drop off the truck at my brother's and a few days later I got the truck back. Costs for parts about $300 - calipers, rotors, and some other maintenance stuff. Paid my brother $200 for his efforts and we are all happy. My brother is a former toyo mech so he's got tools and the know how. Recently laid off from his computer IT job so i paid him $200 for a days worth of work.
Glad I didn't get scr....

Ouch!
I'm glad for you that you said no. Pretty much any time something just "comes up" during a routine maintenance inspection (such as that) I always say no and research it myself before paying out the a** for it.
Good on ya-

$1700??? I thought the $1200 quote was bad...great having a mechanic for a brother. We both made out.

I know a little about maintaining my GX to do all the the non-warrenty items myself. Brakes, Oil and diff changes. I havn't got to the belts yet. Buy parts from local auto stores and labor on me.
