2007 GX humming at highway speed
I have a 2007 GX470 with 15,000miles now. we bought brand new and from day 1 there was humming at highway speed. this humming only seems to happen when I'm around 60mph and when I let go of the gas pedal. humming begins until I gently press on gas pedal again. I had mentioned this to the service rep 2 times and they were not able to replicate.
today I picked up the truck from the dealer after oil change, tire balance, and 4 wheel alignment and it still makes that humming sound when I let go of the gas pedal at highway speed. its driving me crazy.
I searched and read this post....
https://www.clublexus.com/forums/gx-...or-real-2.html
and last post by gatorgx seems to fit my syndrome.
does anyone else have this problem? is there a known cause? I will take the car back this week to have them realign because the car pulls slightly and I have to keep the steering wheel tilted to go straight.
I had the clunk fixed several months ago...now hopefully this last problem will go away once I figure out what the problem is.

The symptoms you describe do not sound like the TSIB "drone," which is usually associated with a deep vibration or drone noise with significant vibration in the cabin.
My GX humms when I let off the gas at 75 mph, but the "humm" I hear is typcial drive train noise. It's not real loud but it starts as soon as I hit 75 when I depress the accelerator or when I am driving on a flat road holding the pedal at a constant speed without resistance. I can only hear it when I turn the radio off or if I am concentrating on trying to listen for it. It drives me a little nuts but I am just **** like that and the typical driver would probably not notice it. My wife didn't until I pointed it out to her.
If it makes you feel any better my 2008 Lexus IS does it too!

your description is exactly like mine. wow are you serious? so we have to live with this?
there is no fix for it? I thought it was the stock pos tires (bridgestone dueler h/t) and I've been wanting to get Bridgestone Alenza or Michellins .

Not the tires, since I have the Michellin Cross Terrains, so save your money on tires unless you need to buy new ones. Although arguably the CT's are some of the best tires out there for the GX.
Unfortunately there's not much that can be done. I have trained myself to ignore it and I usually drive with the radio on so I don't even hear it anymore. I chaulk it up to the GX being a 4x4. It is by far one of the quietest body on frame 4x4 SUV's on the market, so I think I can live with it.

***update.
I took it back to Pohanka Lexus this morning and told them that I can replicate the noise. They brought out chief technician for a ride. While he drove he noticed the sound as soon as he let go of the gas pedal. He says that he has heard this type of noise before on some GX470 but mine was pretty extreme. While driving back to the dealer he mentioned that there was transfer case TSB for older GX but not 2007. He says that he is going to inspect the differentials as he thinks that's where the noise is coming from.
He defiintely said that its not normal and should not make that noise. They are going to keep the car at the shop for several days until that noise is gone even if they have to install a new differential.
I'm SOOOO glad the chief tech went for a ride with me and its documented in their system. No more 'technician couldn't hear any noise'. I love Lexus service...I want to sell my bmw and purchase a lexus now because their service is so good. =)
I'll keep updating as things progress with this humming noise.

Glad to hear it, hopefully they find something. Your case must be more extreme then what I am experiencing. The sound I hear is the same differential sound that I hear in my 08 IS.

UPDATE: humming noise is GONE!!!!!!!!
After picking up the car from the dealer I tried to replicate the sound but its gone!!!!
No more humming noise at 60+mph when I let my foot off the gas pedal.
Transfer case was replaced and that fixed/eliminated the mystery noise. Now it truly feels like a Lexus.
If you experience the same thing don't live with it, take to the dealer!
