Finally managed to get hold of the part number for the seal replacement. The dealer has this part.

This TSB seems to be a bit more involved than just changing out a seal behind the actuator. Is disassembly of the transfer case necessary?

Not needed, Normally if the actuator leaks & if you happen to see from the previous posts, the leak is exactly on the Actuator shaft, which has the oil seal holding on with a small part of oil within it, This can be removed just by removing the Harness and the s boix lts holding to the transmission, the function primarily is the 4WD of this component. This ush button is the 4 wheel Axle ( slanted ) button on your pedestal, if this has a leak, this will flickr on your cluster as a warning ). I happen to do this job when the Oil seal part was not known to me or available & neither the dealer told me about the TSB availability,or known with the dealer, they advised to replaced the whole actuator itself costing a hefty price, I had to figure out a way to solve this leak, while the dealer insisted to replace. I disassembled this actuator and found the damaged O ring was the cause, and finally replaced this part. Thats it, It perfect since that day. Only one thing careful is what I have mentioned and the procedure mentioned on the TSB regarding the harness removal and the battery removal should be kept in your mind, anything different, the solenoid within the Harness gets shorted & boom there goes the $$$$, and you will an Engine Check, and nothing can save the actuator from there on, You will have to replace the actuator. It is tricky, but you just have to be smart from the process beginning to know the whole stuff. The TSIB has just mentioned that.

Mann777,
I took my GX to a local repair shop to fix this leak, but they cannot find the seal. They have replaced the o-ring, but are still looking for a seal. Can you tell me where you got it.
Thanks!

Now they are available at the any dealers, check out the previous posts, for the p/n and have it sourced from the dealer. I had it source privately from the Seal distributor, that was the case then. Now it wasy stuff.

Hennessey Lexus in Atlanta, Ga did not have the seal, nor did they show it to be available. My shop found a seal from BMW that was the same size and used it....Leak is all fixed now.

Hi Mann777,
I went to Lexus dealer in Portland today to ask them if they have the seal. I gave them P/N - 90301- 56009. O Ring. But it turn out to be just an O ring, not the one with dia 23 x 15mm. Do you know if this oil seal can be found at toyota part and service department?
thanks,
Bebie

Ok with regards to the oil seal , here is the contact, the only drawback is a minumum of thirty should be ordered. I can only suggest if all member who are having this problem could pool it together, and purchase this one off transaction. I have checked with him, he is not willing to do retail business.

Here is the contact
$3.30 each pc--30 pcs minimum.

Nitirle single lip oil seal (esc style on website)

Default please help

Mann777,

I called EPM and he said he has a 15mm inside, 23mm outside, 7mm wide double lip nitirle seal with spring. Is this the one I need? He said he also has a 15x23x3 single lip without spring. I am one of the ones who has a bad seal as opposed to o-ring, but I thought the original seal was a single lip? The actuator was quoted to me today by Lexus at $1,001.00. Help, please!

Agood,
Can you please share the part # on the BMW seal and any other pertinent info. I have tried several seals and none have worked. I'm now faced with buying the actuator for $1,001. Please help!

10S..did you speak to John, as he is the one who mentioned that the image posted earlier matches to their requirements. Dont bother buying a new one, as this can be done. All you need is the right part and tool, dont rush yourself buying a new one as this is purely a mechanical failure, nothing electronic. Have a look at the snaps posted earlier of the O Ring. And most important they do have the spring, as once inserted on the actuator shaft, they clasp is . And it is a single lip seal as mentioned. hope it help

Mann,
My problem is the seal and not the o-ring. I did speak to John and he said the single lip seal they have is 23x15x3mm, not 23x15x7.5mm like the original. I assumed it wouldn't be thick enough.
He has a 23x15x7mm, but it is a double lip. I am a novice at this & my GX is at an independent shop, waiting on my instruction. I would gladly buy 30 seals if I knew they were the right ones. I was hoping maybe "agood1" would respond with info on the BMW seal they got to work. Do you think either of the ones from EPM would work? Thanks for your help.
