Default transmission Dipstick?????

I'm embarrassed to even ask this question.
But for the life of me I cannot find the transmission dipstick to check the trans fluid? I looked in the owners manual also and I can't find it.
Help.....thanks

the 2003 had a dipstick but in 2004 Lexus went to a sealed transmission. It uses WS fluid. You don't have to replace it for 100k miles.

That's toyota's claim. I think "lifetime" means 100K mi. FWIW, my sister's husband own's a performance car business and drained the "lifetime" 100K mi ATF in her 330. It looked like it was toast at 60K mi. Personally, I wouldn't run any ATF longer than 60K mi, regardless of what the manufacturer claims. But again, all the cars I buy have to last at least 15 yrs, meaning two lifetimes!

So I was not going crazy!!!

I do not drive my GX hard. My wife carts the kids around in it.
I also keep my cars a long time at least 150k -- Then just go buy another one!! Thanks Club Lexus!

I downloaded the maintenance schedule from the Lexus owner's site and it calls for transmission and rear differential services every 40k miles for the 2004 GX470.

My local dealer has screwed up my clunk fix, so I might have to wait and find another more competent Lexus dealer to tackle flushing the drive train system.

that funny cause i just took the GX into the dealer and no mention of a 40k mile diff and trans fluid change came up in the 40k mile inspection service. You sure about that claim?

I will say the same debate used to go on with BMW's and their lifetime claim for trans fluid but they are coming around to saying it should be changed now. i partcipate on a popular BMW board for my 5 series and it was highly debated for years but seems to have come around over there as well that its good to change the tranny fluid in at least the 40-60k intervals, some are doing it every 30k miles.

I would love to bring this up to my mechanic as he owns a GX as well. hmmmmmmmm

Thx
Dan

The 03 GX calls for tranny fluid change at 40K.

Default Trans Fluis

When in doubt change it. You will feel better knowing it has clean fluid.

Whats "WS" fluid? I am planning on doing a transmission flush and would like to know the type of fluid to put in. Also does it have a filter and has anyone replaced it?

Read the ATF WS report from Blackstone on this Lexus GS350. It basically says the fluid is deteriorating in the 80-100k range. The procedure Al details works on our GX's. I did this on my wifes GS350 and it is not difficult.

It's just strange why there's no dipstick. Why can't it be normal. Also where on the gx is the fill plug. I lifted it up yesterday and couldn't find it.
