Exclamation Confused on Service Schedule

GX 470 , 2004 , 35,000 miles , now her is my question Lexus Dealer tells me no service needed but brake fluid , 2/ Toyota dealers tells me , 10 years is the what we use to replace not the miles ,

WInter temps , Summer temps , breakkdown the fluids and belts .

Both Toyota suggests :
Timing belt , water pump , all fluids , brake , trans , 4x4 fluids , trans , differential ,
coolant , air filters ,
due to the years not the miles .
the only thing ever done to the GX was a new battery last year and regular oil changes , tire rotations.

what your thoughts .?

cost $1067.00

Normally the timing belt / water pump is around $700-$800, diffs / transfer fluids are around $200 and transmission is around $200. So $1067.00 is a pretty good price if they're also changing the brake fluid, coolant and air filter.

At the rate you put on the miles you technically wouldn't be due for a timing belt change (90-100K miles) for another 20years. I wouldn't trust a 30yr old timing belt. I agree w/ Toyota. I'd replace the timing belt but the fluids are probably ok but if you don't want to change them down the road just have them do it while they have your GX.

Leave the trans fluid alone, it's a synthetic with at least a 1000,000 service interval, unless you are doing some major towing. Doing it yourself is difficult, 12 qts or more have to be flushed through the trans and then refilled. The best you can hope to do is drop pan and replace 5 qts.

I'd replace the timing belt within the year. Belts can and will degrade over time and since our engines are interference engines you'll damage your engine if it breaks while it's running. Some say to replace them every 60K miles but I'd replace them every 7yrs / 100K miles. One of my 1st gen Tundras timing belt lasted 140K miles and it still looked very useable, even the tech commented about the wear or lack of I should say.

For the transmission you don't need to change the fluid at 45K miles. I've seen guys w/ Tundras that have over 200K miles and still haven't replaced / flushed their transmission fluid. Toyota World Standard (WS) is a lifetime transmission fluid but nothing is lifetime. If it were my GX I'd probably change it at 150K unless you do a lot of towing, then you'd want to change it sooner.

no towing or off road , with GX,
But with years vs miles makes me wonder what if and how long , ending up with a huge bill !

thanks everyone

Got things in order , Thursday it happens ,

Timing belt , water pump , coolant , throttle body cleaning , replace front , rear and x case fluid , air filters , brakes inspected , check PVC ,

No need for spark plugs good for 125,000 miles . and trans fluid is good for 100,000 miles

$1041.39 -$100 discount .$941 plus taxes . toyota dealer .

anything else I should be getting done @this time ?
