Sterling McCall Lexus in Houston
Anyone buy a new Lexus from them recently? If you have, have you gotten your license plates yet?
It's been over 6 weeks since we bought our GX from there and we're still waiting on our license plates! Even the second dealer plates they sent us are about to expire. Our salesman told me today that there's a backlog on plates because the person who handles it is leaving. I'm thinking, you know, that's not my problem and how could it possibly take so long to replace someone. I told him it was unacceptable that it's taking so long and that he needs to relay that to upper management because they don't seem to be taking the problem seriously (I've called at least once a week for the past 3 weeks).
The reason it's an issue is because the car has a toll tag and the temporary license plate grace period has long passed. My wife is having to use the pay lanes to avoid any fines but I think I'm just going to call Sterling McCall and suggest to them perhaps she'll start using the ez pass lanes and any fines she incurs, they can pay. We'll see if they take it seriously after that.
We don't actually live in Houston so it's not too much of an inconvenience but my wife has been going to Houston for the past few weekends so it is inconvenient.

Everytime I buy a new car, I insist on getting the new plates upon delivery. I tell them that I plan to drive across the country and don't want to drive with no plates. It works everytime.

The best way to get the new plate fast is to tell them you will take delivery on the new car after the new plates are installed, thet will make them work fast. Personally, I think the dealer is full of it, they can just send the salesman or a kid down to the register and get the new plates. You cannot tell me that only that one person can get you your new plates. I am not sure how it works in Texas, but here in MA, the dealer, insurance angent and yourself can get the plate. If thats the case, I would get your money back for that fee and do it yourself or somewhere else and tell the sales manager that you you will give him a dis-satify rating on the Lexus survey, that will get him on his feet fast.

In NY they allow a transfer of plates. In California, you get new plates issued with a new car. The plates out here stay with a vehicle till it makes a trip to the boneyard. Well, that is unless they are vanity plates.
