Who has installed a Curt Hitch?
It looks like the GX has 12 bolts to install a hitch. 4 on each side and 4 in the middle. I saw a picture of a Curt hitch and it looks like it just has 8 holes. 4 on each side and done in the middle? Is this true or just a bad picture?

Your assessment is correct. The Curt hitch does not have four bolts in the center to attach to the plate below the center of the rear bumper. It only has the four bolts on each side to attach to the frame rails. I installed a Curt hitch on my 2006 GX 470 a couple months ago and have been happy with its performance.

It is possible, but you will need to get four additional bolts from a hardware store or your dealer, since the Curt hitch only comes with eight bolts total. I don't think it's an issue of safety unless you are really pushing the max load of 6500 lbs.

Linko,
Thanks
I just ordered one.
$178 shipped
Better than $420 for the Lexus version.

Hi,
I am new to this board and would like to install a hitch as well. Could somebody post pictures of the Curtis hitch compared to the OEM one on the car? Thanks for all your help!

Installed Curt Hitch on my '04 GX in about 45 minutes
This was a relatively simple install. Hardest part was getting the tow hook bolts loose. A trick that made this installation much easier was too getting a long ratchet extension and using it for the smaller bolts over the exhaust pipe and the one under the cover on the driver's side. This way I did not have to remove the exhaust at all. Once they were snug I was able to get the torque wrench in to get proper torque on them. The electrical plug took some maneuvering. It was close to opening but the tab on the cover would hit the bar. I first tried turning the plug upside down but could not get it out of the bracket once the nuts were off. Instead I just used some wire snips to cut the tab off at an angle and slightly bent left side of the bracket back (about 1/4" did the trick), problem solved. If you live in or near Dallas, Joe's Hitch has these in stock for 153.00.
