Remote Starter - Recommendations??
Anyone put a remote starter in a 2004 GX470? If so, which brand?
It's not a smart key model, just conventional key fob factory alarm right now.
My wife has been asking me to do this non-stop.

No, the LS600hL isn't the fastest 0-120 - even off a cliff.

I have an ultrastart remote starter/alarm with the 2-way remote. It works really great. I can look up the model number if you're interested.

I would not mind knowing the model number.
For those who have remote start, does the engine turn off if you hit the brake pedal before inserting the key? I’ve been looking for one myself, but cannot seem to find one with that feature. I thought it would have been something standard.
A co-worker here has that on his car, but it had it when he bought it used. Does not know where the unit is, so we cannot ID the system. The remote is unbranded as well.

I'll get the model number for you when I get home tonight.
When the truck is started from the remote, pressing the brake pedal before inserting (and turning to on) the key will cut the engine. I thought that was a standard feature on all of them too.
The only downfall is that the system only comes with 1 remote.

I'd love to know the model number.
Still tempted to get one. Too early to risk one on the LS600hL, but for the GX470 - sure.

I personally just bought the LuxLink remote start and alarm add on for my 07 GX. I have not installed it yet, but it does use the factory key which is a plus for me.

I have an astrostart that was already on my 03 GX. It works ok. I wouldn't recommend it as I haven't figured out how to shut the engine off remotely after its turned on.
I have a Python alarm with remote start on my 94 ES300 and it works much better. I can remotely start it and remotely kill it.
Note that Python, Clifford, Viper are all the same company i.e. Directed Electronics Inc.
A friend of mine has a compustar alarm system with remote starter. This is the only company that has a remote start system for 5 speed transmissions and the range of 6000 ft that's 1 1/4 mile.
http://www.compustar.com/main.htm
Compustar will be my next purchase when I'm ready to switch it over, I have to warn that it is pricey though but you get what you pay for.

This is NOT true. Pretty much any remote starter can be retrofitted to be used on a manual transmission vehicle, with the addition of a module that makes you go through a certain sequence before exiting the vehicle. That being said, there are MANY more systems on the market that will get as much as, if not more than, the "claimed" 6000 ft of the Compustar. Autopage has two particular units, the RS-900 and the RS-1000 that WILL do 1 mile consistently, and with the addition of their C3 module, which will be released later this month, they will have unlimited range, as it will work through a java application on your cell phone and GPS satellites to remotely control and monitor your vehicle. If you wanna know more, send me a PM on here, and I can go into it further.

I'm having a remote starter installed in my 07 GX 470 this week. The dealer offers the Audiovox Pro9276 (comparable to a Prestige model available to consumers.) This has 1/4 mile range. The Lexus dealer in Watertown MA will install this for $550. That's $200 for the unit and $350 for installation using a book time of 3.5 hours at their billable rate of $99/hr.
Another Lexus dealer nearby does not install remote starters but farms all units out to a Rayco Electronics shop. The tech who works on these does all of their work on Lexus, BMW and Audi. They will install the Viper 160XV (1/4 mile range) for $450 if you go through Lexus or $350 if you go direct to them. They said it will take 3.5 to 4 hours to install. Their charge for the 160XVL (1 mile range) is $425.
Both of these installs will require using the valet key to "trick" the vehicle to start. The other comments about not stepping on the brake hold true for these devices too.
