I think most of the freaks here including myself uses synthetic oil for our baby. So it'll be more like $50.

If you are lucky!!! More like $70....and still get a "FRAM" or a "PENZOIL" oil filter plus oil splashed all over the place. No way!!!!

Synthetic (Rotella) from Walmart and an OEM filter. Do the job right is the only way for me.

I was being conservative and agree that it is typically more.

Default Oil filter part numbers

I just did mine with the 90915-YZZD3 filter and Mobil 1 synthetic 5W-30. Getting the skid plate off was a bit of a pain, easy after that.

Default Drain oil when warm not hot or cold...

I have always changed my oil a few hours after I've been driving. It lets the motor cool some so I don't burn myself. The oil has had time to drain to the pan but it also is still warm so it flows out of the oil pan much better. If there is sludge in the pan it also has a better chance that some will make it out.
Another idea is to drain the oil into a 3 gallon bucket. Some laundry detergents use them and all you have to do when you are done draining the oil is to snap the lid on, take it to your auto supply recycle area and dump it. You won't have to mess with an oil drip pan at all. Wipe the outside of the bucket down and it's ready for next time but don't worry about inside the bucket, just snap the lid on and put it away for next time.

Cheers!

To me I think its better to draing it after its been sitting all night since most of the oil is in the oil pan.
ALWAYS better to do the oil change after a nice drive and everything gets nice and warm cause the oil flows much better (out).....may have to wait a little, if its To hot in there.

Default Front Jack / Single Point?

Ok I'm new to the GX and I've searched all over and can't find any information on a single front jack point. Anyone know? I have a 1st Gen / 2006 GX470.

I'm used to using a hydraulic floor jack to raise the front up until I can get 6 ton jack stands under side jacking points.

Any help would be most appreciated.

On most vehicles you can always use the front and rear diffs as lift points.

See the attached PDF for the GX....

Thanks! Not used to a "real" truck frame...

Took off the front skid plate and it was quite clear where to jack it up.

First off, thank you shodog for posting the oil change information.

Second, moderators, please consider making shodog's thread a sticky.
(It's nice to know what tools you are going to need before starting a job.)

Question:

Is there room to use this type of filter wrench on the GX?

Getting ready for the first oil change. Mobil1 synthetic is on sale for $3.89/QT (after rebate).

^ You shouldn't need a wrench, you should be able to unscrew it by hand. But it's a tight fit in the filter area, I doubt that type will fit. Just get one of these:
