Default 05 GX - Check Something

I was hoping someone with a late built date 2005 GX (July-August 05, on decal when you open the drivers side door) could check and see what version of the navigation DVD disc that you have? You would press the menu button and then on the screen in the top right corner , the Map DVD button. It will say the version number. Thanks

I bought my GX Sept 1, 2005. However, today was the first time I checked the build date 06/05 (is that normal). Anyways, the version for my nav is "ver.04.2". Is there an updated version?

Looks like there is an update for a 2005 GX470.

Sounds like its normal. I would still like to hear from someone who has a July or August built 05 GX and see if there GX also has the ver. 04.2 or the ver.05.1 DVD. Thanks

Thanks.
My 06 GX has the ver.05.1 which is supposedly the latest disc. I wonder why they have the disc listed above for the 05-06 GX when supposedly the 06 GX has the latest disc? I mainly was trying to find out if the 05 GX I had which I believe was built in July 05, had the ver. 04.2 or the ver.05.1 disc?

Is this "update" to the maps only? If it updates the Nav software does anyone know what the improvements are?

Bob,

I checked the Driver's side door but I didn't see version number? Could you be a little more specific, I must be BLIND... Sorry about that!

R210,

'fraid so... This only for MAP data, it will not update your interface... Sorry for the sad news...

I don't know what the newest update will do to the Navigation System. Let me tell you my experience.

Last year I bought a used 2001 GS300 with Nav for my wife. I immediately went looking for an update for the Nav. I found one on ebay for $150. I bought it, installed it, but saw absolutely no difference. Of course, I didn't have the car long enough to compare the original and the update.

I also have a 2004 GX470 with Nav. The NAV works completely different than in the GS300. Many commands are different, such as the directions. The Nav in the GS will say, "when you come to the T intersection, do such and such". The GX Nav does not say, T intersection.

Now here is the Surprise...... The update DVD I bought for the 2001 GS300 is exactly the same DVD I have in my 2004 GX470. Same DVD, part numbers and all, but works on two different NAVs

The drivers side door pillar has the build date (month/year) on a decal. To get the navigation DVD version, just press the menu button on the nav controls, then in the upper right corner of the screen, press the DVD button. It will give you the version number.
Anyone else with a late build 05 date, can you also check your version? Also give month built. Thanks

I checked out one of the auto parts supply sites posted here for Nav dvds and it appears that the same part number is to be used by everybody over several years and generations of systems.

My guess is that the DVD contains a database of map information that can be used by all the software. How it interprets, uses and displays this information is determined by your hardware and firmware chips in your own system.

If you play any PC based computer games, the same thing happens. You get one software disk (say, in a game like Civilization, which has a large database), and your screen resolution, sound, video effects, etc. are limited by your hardware. Likewise, one can get a database of facts (such as comma delimited financial data) and open up the file in Excel, Word, Access, or many other programs to totally different effect.

I'm not a programmer, but I can easily see how providing one database makes a lot of sense.
