Is the plug you show here part of the install? I just got the hitch installed today and was not given this adapter.
Thx.

Yes, for mine the adapter was provided. It was in the box that also had the reciever and reciever pin.
But that adapter is only about $8 at most boat/trailer type stores (and probably Wal-Mart).

Toyota V6 Hitch
I don't have it now, but I did post that part number on this site some months ago. If you search all the GX threads, you should find it.
A few of us went through the same process that this thread now explores.

I love our GX - I love our GX! Since the fuel fiasco (see other thread) and they put the new plugs in, cleaned out and freshened up the fuel system etc. our truck is running like a dream! I love this Lexus !!!!
Question tho.. I ordered the PT228 60440 large, robust hitch to have installed, dealer told me they couldnt put it on because it appears the vehicle has been in a rear end accident! They said the holes for the bolts didnt match up so they couldnt mount it up. However, they were confused because all the parts of the bumper and everything looked completely original.. all mint.. did they just not know what they were doing? does that center piece (for the less robust hitch socket only) need to be taken off during installation and they didnt do this?
They said they'd put my name on the hitch, put it inventory and told me to go to a body shop to have the frame pulled back! THen they could put it on. whaaaa??? Maybe I should go to a different Lexus dealership.
Thanks....

Incorrect hitch most likely; you probly have an April 12, 2004 or later produced vehicle.
thats the exact change in the two factory hitches (PT228-60440 & PT228-60540) they moved some mounting bolt locations in the center; the side mounting remain the same
but yes, find another dealer if they dont know this and want to have you're frame pulled heh

Hi Ntwrk,
I ordered my Hitch here online from Hitchsource.com.
http://www.hitchsource.com/product_i...ducts_id=25951
The item I ordered was from Curt Manufacturing, top rated model Class III @ 6500lbs towing capacity.
This is of VITAL importance to you as this is the ACTUAL installation instructions AND bolt on instructions/diagram for the hitch. You can EASILY tell from this diagram if your vehicle has been hit or not because your hitch should correspond to the holes as shown in diagram:
http://www.hitchsource.com/docs/cu/13445.pdf
Good luck...

As does the web link you point to.
Not 6500lb

Thanks Loflin, my unit stated 6500lbs in the instruction sheet and it looked just like the online pdf. Guess next time I'll have to look a little more carefully.
That said, despite the typo (mine or the PDF), the diagram is correct, Ntwrk, look it over and let us know, hopefully you didn't get rear ended, and if you did... I would complain BITTERLY to the deal or better yet, try to get your money back (if possible)...

Hello All,
While we're discussing hitches, has anyone with the 6500 lb. hitch towed a travel trailer. If so, how did the GX perform?

Towed my 28' Airstream from Fl to Nc and back. Stayed mostly on level ground. Had no problems. Used a weight distributing hitch

If it's not to much trouble what is the GVWR of your trailer?

Installation Instructions Needed for PT228-60540 Hitch
I just received the hitch I ordered for my '05 GX (p/n PT228-60540 - specified in this forum and verified by my local Lexus dealer). I plan to install it myself this weekend. My local dealer quoted me 3 hours of labor, and by the looks of this it shouldn't take nearly that long. Unfortunately, it didn't come with any installation instructions, and I don't want to take any chances of doing something incorrectly with this. Does anyone have or know where I can find installation instructions for this hitch?
By the way, my local dealer wanted $340 for this hitch. I picked it up from Bell Lexus (Phoenix, AZ) for $278.80 plus shipping.

Thanks for the link LoneWolf! Question - how does this compare to the one from Toyota? Same quality, design, etc.? My biggest concern is I want to make sure it fits up in the square notched-out area of the bumper as the "factory" one is supposed to. I'm not interested in having the socket sit lower than my bumper as others on this thread have mentioned they wanted to.. I already have the notched spacer for the hitch so I just wanted to make sure it will fit in there nice and flush.
THanks..
