Finally, there is a sticker that says 6500lb tow, 650 tongue for weight carrying hitch and 6500 lb tow and 975lb tongue for weight distributing hitch.

The PN stamped into the metal, if anyone wants to look up is: PT228-60540, with second row of numbes 14761-0 05J4
Mine is exactly the same as you've described - 05 GX loaded with hitch listed as factory option - can't find where the part number you are refering to is stamped though...

Left side, flat part where the 4 bolts go into the frame.

If you are referring to the tow loops in thic picture, then it appears to be the same with the hidden version?

Hard to tell but not the same. My hitch has a 2 inch steel tube right from left to right as you can partially see from my pics. Then there is a piece on each side the tube is connected to about 12 inches log that runs front to back. It is the same part of the frame where the tow hooks are hooked.

To net, my hitch is attached to the final bumber brace (the left to right piece in the picture you reference) with 2 large bolts and it is attached to the frame that runs front to back with 4 large bolts on each side.

I just installed the Lexus OEM Hitch on my 05' GX470. It is Lexus part #PT228-60540. They tell me it is the same one that they put on the late 04' GX470
I looks a little like the one you in the pic above. But it mounts to the frame rail with 4 bolts on each side. And in the center with 4 bolts to the bracket that came with towing option with out the ball mount. It has a decal on it that says 6500lbs.

Almost the same. But the center 4 bolts go up from the bottom and into a bracket that came on the GX.
The only parts I had to remove were the light connector bracket and tow hook, I put the tow hook back on after the hitch was in place.
The mount for the light connector bolts to the left side of the hitch and the connector bolts to it. All the hitch mounting bolts screw into nuts that are built in.
It took me less than 1 hour for the install. I used my floor jack with a 2x8 about 3' long to hold it up till I got a few bolts in.

Hmm. After reading 6 pages of this, I'm not sure what I learned

What part should I use for an 04 GX470 with KDSS? 5k towing will do me fine.

Looknow.....

On my '04 GX470 w/o KDSS, I went to U-Haul and had them install their hitch made by Curt Manufacturing. It is the same hitch that fits the Toyota 4Runner.

The latest OEM 6.5K that apparently Lexus has, is the same hitch as above, but it also attaches to the frame at the center of the bumper.

Which gives me the idea of going to a Welding Shop and having a metal strap welded between the frame and the hitch. The reason I'm going to do it, is because I have a BIG platform that's bolted onto a carrier that plugs into the trailer hitch receiver. I use it to carry an ATV and to haul heavy items from places like Home Depot with concrete blocks and bags of cement. That center support should make a big difference. Different enough for Lexus to go from 5K to 6.5K. However, its the tongue weight I'm concerned about.

I just wanted to say I installed the hitch for protection of the rear bumper more than towing. Over the last 10 years or so I have rear ended at least 6 times all have been when I was stopped or in low speed stop and go traffic.
The last guy hit me on ice when I was stopped at a light. He was driving an old S10 Blazer and hit me just hard enough to move my Dodge Ram 2500 a few inches. The first thing he tells me is he hoped there wasn’t any damage because he didn’t have any insurance! My hitch ball went through his grill and his S10 was dripping antifreeze.
I told him to back up so we could check my truck, after a few attempts to move on the ice he gunned it and his grill and bumper fell off.
I checked my truck and it was not even scratched. I took down his name and license # and left him sitting in the street!

Ram Man.....

Soon after I had my hitch installed, I backed out of a hotel's parking space and accidentally backed into the corner of a concrete-block enclosure they use for their trash cans. The hitch receiver which protrudes out an inch or so, was what hit the enclosure. Only a couple of small scratches on the bumper from flying chips of concrete-block. Needles to say, the hitch more than paid for itself.

True, as long as you don't bend the frame. Harder impact collisions might cause more havoc than a bumper.

Capirato, pretty much like that drawing, except, the tube extends past the left and right side parts (i.e. it sticks thru). Also at the reciever there is at least 2 bolts that go up into the bumper frame. Also there is the trailer lights plug on the left side (assume it is just not shown in this drawing). Also, the rear tow loops use the same 2 bolts on each side (the 2 nearest the back of the car).
