Are there any experts out there? I'm looking for the best quality most effective hard wired brand.

Valentine One is the best.

I tried it side by side with a Escort 8500 using a friend in the ticket business. Radar the Valentine wins for range, laser ~ doesn't matter neither were effective at any angle/range. When it beeped he had a reading.

Been using it for a few years and it works great with very limited false reading.

Valentine one for sure!! Next best would be the new escort Redline thats not out yet but soon and supposed to be better than the V-1---It has not been tested against all the others yet so we will have to wait and see. Bit Escorts 9500xi is another great choice for alot of city driving.

Go to radardetector.net and start reading alot--TONS of information to be had!!

3 round trips (NY - CO) with V1, average speed 65. I know it doesn't sound like much, but if you factor in all the food/gas stops, and trucks, and slow pokes, and constriction, etc., you have to drive MUCH faster to get that average (I'll take a fifth on that).

The best detector to date. Picks up radar and laser. Not a lot of false alarms, sees front and back, keeps track of number of radars in your vicinity, adjustable sensitivity (logic), upgradeable and great product support. I had this since they first came out. When it was time to upgrade all I had to do was send in my old detector and the upgrade fee, and I got a brand spanking new detector, cables clamps and all. Now that's service.

Laser is the toughest one, since you get no warning in the clear shot. Most troopers in Iowa, Nebraska, Illinois, and Ohio use lasers. One advantage is, they have to see you and that means you see them. Granted it may be too late, but non the less. Also, if there is traffic in front of you, the cop is going to be blasting it with laser before you get there, so hopefully you can pick up scattered beams and your V1 will scream "bloody hell". If the cop is patient and he has set a good trap, you have no chance even if he is using regular x-band radar. But, cops are human, that means they get bored easily, and they are also under pressure from state/local budgets to write as many tickets as they can, so they cannot afford to be patient :-) You can still get caught if you are stupid, but if you think like a cop and watch the traffic and the indicators on the V1, you will be OK.

Read the white papers on the Valentines site. They describe in good detail real life scenarios and how a detector fits in and how to use it along with other methods to avoid getting a ticket.

Avg. speed of 65 on a long trip is very good indeed. People who haven't tried it will be amazed at how fast your average speed drops when you pull off for fuel, food, or slow down for a traffic jam.

THE V1 IS KING. As you alluded, the KEY to getting the most out of a V1 and the REASON that there is no match for it, is the COMBINATION of information that it provides. No other detector can allow you to drive as fast, as safely, as much of the time as a V1. It is NOT about sensitivity -- all of the good detectors have plenty of long-distance sensitivity to keep you from getting a ticket most of the time if you immediately get legal and stay legal every time you get a "beep." The V1 allows you to more quickly and more accurately make an intelligent decision as to whether that beep represents a police radar that is in position to ticket you. There is no match for the V1, and whenever you hear someone taking only about this or that brand's sensitivity compared to a V1, an experienced V1 owner KNOWS they are amateurs and don't know how to make use of a V1.
