High-Pitched Brake Noise After Service

I just had the front brakes on my GX470 serviced for the first time. I now hear a metalic spinning noise from both front wheels, which is not affected by application of the brakes. I took it back to the dealer's service center and they insist the noise is normal. As it did not exist for the three years before I had the brakes serviced, this seems very odd to me. Any one else notice anything similar?

I think it's normal for the first +/- 100miles, the new brake pads need to "get used" to the rotors.

When installing brake pads, there is a paste that is applied to the metallic shims to prevent noise. Maybe they forgot or omitted this procedure?

If that's "normal" I better take my truck back to Toyota!

Just had my rear pads and rotors replaced yesterday and everything is as quiet as the day I bought it. Oh, and lexus replaced my front rotors 30 days ago and no noise there either.

Did Lexus do the work or did you or another shop install aftermarket pads and rotors? This is more prone to happen with aftermarket pads/rotors. If Lexus did the work take it back and tell them to make it right.

Maybe they forgot to reinstall the brake pad spring clips. Two per side. I'd give it 50 miles to allow the new pads to bed in. If it keeps up after that, they did something wrong or skipped a step.

I exactly had the same problem, The whining noise is from the plate which is of the inner side of the wheel, it is a half bracket thin metal peice, which is like a protection to the Rotor, Just flex it outwords, it is done. Have a look at the attached image, it would look something like this, Ensure you have your steering turned to the extreme right or left to flex it outwards. Or the otherway is if you have a jack, raise the front wheel and rotate the wheels, and you will hear the whine noise, just stop the rotation and flex the plate . cheers
