Default Can the 06 Navi work as a DVD Player?

Hey Everybody,

I recently bought a 06 GX470, and noticed on a few posts that some people have gotten their Navi systems to play DVDs. I have tried putting in the DVD in the CD changer, but it comes up with a message "check CD". I am wondering if this is even possible and if not, how are others able to do this. Overall, is there any way to play DVDs on Navi screen on 06 GX470? Thanks.

As far as I know, Lexus started installing a DVD changer to the 2007 models (5th generation). But you can use it only when you parked and when e-brake is on.

The DVD player is also available on the 06 GX.

The "Check DVD" message probably means the DVD was put it backwards.

If you have the optional Mark Levison audio system, you should be able to play DVD in the audio system providing you are in park with aprking brakes on. What ever you do, do not put a movie DVD in the Nav. system. It may get stuck in there and you will not be able to eject it.

I was curious about this and started by throwing a DVD in the nav system under the passenger seat. I found out that it didn't work this way, but I didn't have any issues getting it back out. I replaced the nav software DVD and it works fine. Haven't tried putting a DVD in the disc changer in the glove box. I have the Mark Levinson system. Is there anything special that needs to be done to make it play?

In the '06 GX, the changer in the glove box was only for CD's (not even mp3, or wma). You had to have another DVD changer mounted in the center console storage to play dvds on the overhead LCD and on the GPS LCD /w parking brake engaged.

I don't have the factory RES in my '06, and I was looking for the same solution as well. I think it may be possible to replace the existing CD changer with a newer DVD changer in the glove box. I think, that starting from '07, Lexus has installed DVD/CD changers in the glove box instead of the combination CD changer in the glove box and DVD changer in the center console like in the '06. But, the GPS has also changed from Gen-4 to Gen-5 that same year, so the wiring harness may be different as well, and the Gen-4 unit may not recognize the newer DVD changer.

Too many variables. It would be nice to hear from someone that knows, or at least to get our hands on the wiring diagrams from both model years.
