Thumbs up 27F Interstate Battery

Sam's Club has the 27F INTERSTATE battery for $80, this is the exact Lexus branded battery with 84 months warranty for $130 + $40 installation.

I was a bit surprised when I took my 2004 GX in recently for a pre-vacation check-up and they said my battery was not in good shape. I asked how much it would be to replace it and they said "oh thats under warranty...it won't cost a thing". It's hard to beat that price and I do not have an extended warranty.

24F will work...... but it's only applicable in WARM climates

27F is applicable for both warm or cold

Did Lexus really put in 2 types of batteries?

Even if one came w/ a 24F, replacing w/ a 27F will not hurt one tiny bit - probably would be better. Based on CCAs, no sense cutting short what you might need someday as Murphy's Law shall prevail..... My OEM Panasonic battery was definitely 27F series. I'd recommend people replace w/ what [size] came stock.

Incidentally, I'm surprised a 24F fit w/out cable extension(s). That was not my experience when I replaced w/ an Optima 34R (which is the same size IIRC). Details?

Yes 27F is longer than 24F.

According to every parts store and battery website I went to, The OE group size for the Lexus GX470 is 27F. Sears, yeah the sharpest knife in the retail (and automotive) drawer , says 24F is ok...... in warm climates but recommends the 27F. Are they all wrong?

I didn't replace w/ a 27F in (b/c I chose Optima) but IIRC my OEM battery was 12 7/8" or very close and I'm sure the tray could handle it (I'll measure tomorrow).

You didn't answer my question.....
Did your 24F fit w/out cable extensions?

My Optima 34R required a 2" extension on the ground and it measures in at 10" (my issue was how far in the posts are mounted on optima R so may not have been an issue w/ you?).

The other problem people may run into is a lot of 24F batteries have less CCAs than 27F. I think the lowest 27F I saw was 650 CCA's while I've seen some 24F ~ 500CCAs. In a warmer climates, not an issue, but where it's cool let alone cold.... 24F could certainly leave you SOL....

The 24F is an exact replica of the OEM battery, therefore the cables fit perfectly on the 24F replacement battery.

I just bought the OEM replacement from Lexus on Saturday and it's definately a 27F. Cost $110 bucks and was exactly the same size as the Panasonic that I pulled out. I wonder why yours is a 24F? Maybe they did put two different battaries in these trucks.

Chad,

What's the brand and model of battery that you got from Lexus? Was the $110 installed or just for the battery alone?

Thanks,
Gene
