Removing Roof Cross Bars
Does anyone know how to remove the black cross bars? There is too much wind noise and I will never use them. Plus I am sure they don't help gas mileage.

You remove the end caps at the back and slide the bars out. Do a search, there is info here somewhere.

Just take it easy when R & R those end caps. They can break if mishandled.

I think that you have to remove the side bars in order to remove the cross bars. Here is how you remove the side bars...

Nooo you don't. Just remove the rear cap as noted in the pic, and slide the crossbars out of the rear of the slots after loosening the sidebar adjustment nuts. I've done it. Really simple mod.

I just took mine off, but haven't been on the road to check on the windnoise.
I took mine off by just sliding back the rear plastic covers and then squeezing the rails by the covers.
It seems that the covers are easily broken if you were to remove them.
I also only moved the rear covers and took both rails off that way

Hi,
Hate to bring up such an old post, but does removing the cross bars makes a noticable difference in the wind noise?
Thanks

I dont think not much of a difference, I have had it on and off couple of time, the cross bars if you notice are aerodynamiclly shaped ( aircraft wing ) , so that they can have the wind deflected at minimum resistance. The noise is higher when you have cross winds than head wind.
