2013 GX460 Slow Acceleration
Just purchased a 2013 GX460 with 16k miles on it. Car seems to be sweet. One thing I noticed is that it seems slow to accelerate from a stop to driving speed. Is it because of the 4.6L/281 ci engine and the weight of the vehicle? I saw something on this forum about a secondary air intake issue, could that be related? It doesn't miss or sputter, just doesn't respond as I would expect.

Have you try S mode see it it's better? Could it be that it's so quiet that you don't notice it's already up to speed? It happened to me a few times when I stopped at red light and wonder why it was not moving fast because I barely heard the engine roar, but looking down at the odometer, I was already at 35-40 mph.
What is your driving speed?

Try manual shifting it. Pull the shifter left to put it in S mode.

Driving speed -- just going from a red light up to 50 or 60 mph. It seems you have to step into it more than I am used to. I know the car is different than my Titan truck. Just wondering. I will try the manual shift and see what it does. Thanks for the help.

Ours doesn't seem exciting either. However, what are you used to? so we are used to a Grand Cherokee. It's pretty quick. the Lexus is actually faster, just doesn't feel it in the seat of the pants. They are a pretty good match, acceleration wise, but the Cherokee makes its power at a lower RPM. So that means you are using a higher RPM to get the Lexus to go. The combo of quiet cockpit, stiff suspension, and needing higher RPM to make its power, makes it seem like its slower. AS a comparison, the 4 Runner really feels anemic. However it's much because it makes its power at a much higher RPM. So you feel like you are running it very hard to achieve the power you are used to. Modern engines usually make their power at higher RPM than older engines did.

Anyone here got a 460 after keeping a 470, I currently have both of them at the moment and the 470 seems to accelerate a lot faster then the 460. Is it my truck or is it the usual case. I already changed the engine air filter on the 460 gonna get the spark plugs replaced next week. What else shall I look at. Thanks

so it wants to shift to 6 gear. Like when I'm merging onto the freeway from off ramp, if I'm not accelerating hard and lock in to 4th or 5th gear, it shifts to 6th while around 55-60mph. When you want to accelerate from that, it doesn't go anywhere haha. You either have to step on the gas hard or pull the shifter to S and kick in 4th.

Just got the oil change done and getting the plugs/shocks replaced on Monday. I have a GS350 FSports for a daily driver so not too worried about it being slow but was just wondering if something's wrong or it does drive like this.

I had a 470 and now a 460 and agree with what you are feeling, however, I think the video below shows it all. The gearing is different but def more power on the 460.

I thought the same thing when I got my 2014. I was coming from a 2001 LS430. I hated the GX the first couple days I had it. Thought it was slow as ****. Now I'm used to it. You could try a Pedal Commander for increased throttle response. I have one but haven't installed it yet.
I hate the gas pedal in the GX. It feels like just a small round nub under your foot, not a long flat pedal. If you wear any type of flimsy-soled shoe like a driving moccasin, all you feel is this nub pushing into the ball of your foot. Gets really annoying. I also hate that its top-mounted. I prefer floor-mounted pedals like in the LS. If the could be one thing I'd change about it I'd start with the gas pedal.

Torque is about the same... 460 weighs like 400 or so lbs more so off the line not surprised. The horsepower increase on the top end is why 460 eventually pulls away from it.

My personal experience from owning both a 2003 470 and 2011 460 is that the overall driving experience with the previous model was definitely more "sporty". It felt quicker at all speeds, as well as more powerful and responsive, than the newer model. While I love the more practical interior and better storage of my 2011 460, I honestly kind of miss the more engaging drive of the old 470.
