Default Do I need to upgrade the roof rails on a BASE model 2010?

NUB here, I need to have a roof rack on my 2010 GX 460 Base model. I was looking at the side rails and there just doesn't seem to be much there structurally, do I have to install/upgrade the side rails before I put in crossbars? Thank you for any input...

Someone correct me if I am wrong but the factory roof rails can hold up to 176lbs with the factory crossbars. If you are just carrying snowboards and skis then you should be fine with the factory rails. If you are considering sometime like a rooftop tent or carrying heavier loads then you can consider upgrading. But without knowing why you need to have a roof rack, we really can't say if they are sufficient.

thank you for taking the time to reply the weight limit is good to know...let me be more specific to what I'm asking. Are the side roof rails on the base model the same as the premium model? Are these functioning side rails, or are they just aesthetic?

Thanks again....appreciated

The side roof rails are the same on all 460 models. I have the OEM crossbars for my base 2011.

I was dissatisfied with the functionality associated with the base roof rack package for the US spec GX, so I went in this direction: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/gx-...s-upgrade.html

Short answer - no.

Long answer - NNNOOO

Unless you plan on tossing some cement on your roof.

If you are looking at a vacation look at my Roof Bag review here

My wife and I will be using it on the new GX for this Summer's vacation
