looking to purchase 2014 GX 460
Good morning fellow CL members, my wife and I are currently looking a several 2014 GX 460 and wanted to see if any current owners could provide us with some feedback on the truck. We thank you in advance and feel free to mention anything that current or previous owners I should know about. We thank you in advance and for your time.
1. We understand its a 4.6L V8 but just how bad or good is the gas mileage on the vehicle?
2. We are expecting our first child but also have two Rottweilers. Do you guys think we'll have enough room for a stroller and the two dogs?
3. Reliability......are these trucks known for any big issues or any major parts going bad or breaking. For instance I currently drive a 2011 IS350 and the water pump going out prematurely is a common issue among the 2ng Gen IS.
4. I worked as a mechanics apprentice while going through school as this will be a used SUV what should I look for when looking over the truck.
5. I read that the center diff is a mechanical torsen. Does the rear end also carry a torsen?

I'd be surprised if you could fit the two dogs and the stroller in the rear, unless it was a pole stroller. If it's anything of size, you won't. For what you described, I'd refer you to a Pilot/MDX or spend more for a Landcruiser. The GX is not exactly a storage space maven, especially for two full size dogs and toddler gear. My own experience with Akita's and toddler are speaking here.

I have a 2015 but I can answer some questions.
1. MPG is what you expect from a V8 city i average 14ish and combined I can get around 17-18.
2. Storage is a struggle but it doesn't affect me.
3. If you get the luxury package then it is known to lean, I can say mine does but it's very minimal.
4/5. I can't really say anything about those questions because I don't know myself.
Overall it's a great truck I love every minute I spend in it, but recently picked up an IS350 myself to daily.

I just purchased a 2016 GX and me and the family love it. We used to have a 2013 Range Rover Sport, which had ZERO storage space and to be frank was a maintenance nightmare. I'd highly recommend the vehicle for a great mid-size luxury SUV, however don't be assuming it has the storage of a Tahoe or something like that. Cant compare, but still... For what you get... It's very acceptable.

TranV, search the forums for leaning. There have been number of cars that lean to one side. Some data suggested it was only on the Luxury cars with the air suspension but other data contradict that. There have been some TSB’s related to this problem, some have had the problem fixed by the Lexus, others say their cars still lean after the “fix”. It’s pretty confusing. I have seen some cars around town that do seem to lean, mine does not. Good luck.

While researching i came across what he mentioned. Basically the luxury package adds air suspension on the rear axel only and its seems that quiet a few GX's have developed an issue which causes one side of the truck to lean lower than the other.

I had air ride suspension on my Range Rover... So great when it works!....
When it doesn't, you'll be cursing yourself over every single component that will keep breaking every 50K miles.
More moving parts = more things that can break.

Some people have it worse than others. Mine isn't bad it's only about a 1/4" maybe 1/2" difference which you can barely notice unless you use a measuring tape to check. Plus like I stated above this only happens with The air suspension so if you get the premium package you should be fine.
