Just bought my 2015 GX460 Luxury in Black. Do they make any blackout kits for the window trim or Grill or has anyone blacked theirs out?

i haven't seen any blackout kits. i did try to cover some of the areas in black vinyl but it was more of a pain being that most of the piece I would black out were long and narrow.

I did manage to remove the fins in the grille and paint them although it wasn't an easy task for me since I decided to keep the bumper and the grille in place.

Looks good. I was thinking of also doing all the chrome around the grill as well.

May try to find a place here in Chicago to vinyl or plasti dip the window trim and grill.

I have a black GX and was thinking of doing that but I actually thought the silver accents on black car looked good as is. Would be interested in seeing how one with the side window trims and everything blacked out looks.

Pinoyesv6-

Can you share how you removed the fins? I've been wanting to plastipdip mine. Thanks.

Pangoo-

If you don't care for chrome, I'd say go for it. Examples can be seen from other Lexus owners who own other models. Lexus chromes just about every Lexus in the same areas. So a lot of folks have had theirs blacked out. I would skim the IS250/350 pages and look for examples there.

if you paint the chrome, the paint will flake off over time. Also, you will lose the defining lines of the gx as everything will just be dark on suv. Wont look good imho

Never said paint.......

Vinyl / PlastiDip. If I didn't like it it's removable with no issues. I tend to disagree though. Too much chrome on this thing......

Just got two estimates........

Halo EFX spray on (supposedly better than PlastiDip?): Blackout everything $900

Vinyl = $750 includes everything except Emblems front and back and GX460 on rear

Thoughts?

GoalieMask-

That's rather high, in my opinion. Some shops charge less to plastidip whole cars. If you're just going to plastidip(or equivalent), I would just do it yourself. I'm confident you could do it all with one can. I plastidipped all four wheels with three coats each and still had a little left(All light coats). Even if a can is $15, you're going to save yourself $885!

The most time consuming part is the prep work, which should be top notch because you're going to put in more effort due to the fact that it's your own car.

As far as vinyl goes, I can't comment because I don't have any experience with it. I just find it rather odd that the vinyl quote is less than the Halo FX.

Keep us updated.

Blacked out older GX 460, crappy pics and it needs front window tint (a must if you do this).

Bigsley:

I tend to agree on the pricing...

Problem is the PlastiDip even with the glossifier doesn't get the look I want in certain areas.

Vinyl gets the look I need (Gloss) in areas but can't be done as easily it in all reas.

Hmmmm.?

Tecman:

Looks good.....

Vinyl or Plastidip? How long has it been done? Holding up?

Front windows and Drone Mobile starter installed the day after I bought it.
