KH: Zero issues
2. Also, I am assuming that you guys just remove the OEM filter and cover the housing, is that correct?
KH: Yes, remove the OEM "filter" and use the UNI as its replacement
3. I do not typically work on cars, for someone that usually has a dealer/mechanic do everything, is this something that most people should be able to handle themselves?
KH: Easily
4. Lastly, do you have to take the housing out of the car to fit the filter or can it be done with it in the car?
KH: Not sure what you mean by housing, but in order to get access to the OEM "filter", the top of the pump must be removed

Sorry for the late reply, but with any luck, you have already completed this effort! KH

I don't think you are stuck in "4lo mode" it's just an alert light on the dash. You are in limp mode, the computer restricts the engine speed.

I have been thinking about making the same change on our 2015 GX. We have purchased the 7/100 extended warranty and I was wondering if Lexus could/would deny warranty service because of this modification or not?

Has anybody had his/her car serviced at Lexus since the external filter was added? Did the service technician say anything about it?

Hello,

I am in the process of purchasing a 2016 GX and was wondering if this is still an issue for the newer models as most of these posts seem to be for earlier 2nd Gen models ?

Thank You

The 2014+ models have the same filter (unless it was changed recently). They haven't been around long enough to experience the issue for the most part but I would not be surprised if some of the newer ones run into the same problem. Lexus has basically shrugged its shoulders at the issue.

I was thinking since toyota had a recall on this, they might have redesigned the part for the newer models. I'll take a look once I get my car.

Toyota never did a recall. They extended the warranty for certain models (Tundra and Sequoia I believe, up to 2010) but never the GX. It's a point of frustration for many owners who have experienced the issue because Toyota has been selective in addressing it.

The foam of 2016 GX is actually different from the old foam getting sucked-in. The old foam was more dense and really soft like the yellow ones used for washing pots and pans - overtime with water exposure they just tear apart into small pieces. The 2016 foam on the other hand was more coarse and it looked similar to the foams used in industrial type air filtering applications.

That's great to hear that it is a different foam in the 2016s, just picked up the truck a few days ago. Off topic, but is it normal for the brakes to vibrate when coming to full stop? I'm thinking maybe they have to settle in since there is less than 300 miles on the car or just characteristics of truck ride coming from a crossover.

My 2011 with air suspension has about 50k miles on it and vibrates when braking as well. The brakes were inspected and have plenty of life left, so I had the rotors machined to try and resolve the issue and no improvement. It may be inherent to the design unfortunately, just like the occasional vibration while driving at highway speeds, steering wheel never appearing aligned straight and the gangster lean when parked (mine leans on the drivers side, which appears to be the opposite of what GX owners with this issue are experiencing.)

Default Secondary Air System ??

About a month ago I replaced the air injection pump on my 2010 Gx460. The foam had gotten sucks into the impeller and the motor burned up. I found an aftermarket pump and did the install myself.

Yesterday the truck threw the dreaded "Air valve open bank 1" code along with bank 2. The vehicle went into Limp Mode and was making a horrible noise when accelerating so I parked it in the garage. Went out this morning and cranked it and it didn't make the noise. I used my scanner to reset the codes and take it out of limp mode.

The truck drives normal now. Hasn't thrown codes in 2 days. My question is do I purchase the valves for $400 and replace them myself or purchase the bypass kit through Hewitt Technologies and let it ride? The kit is $349.

Default So, we have a filter change and a cover.

What about post #73 with an intact filter and a valve failure
