Default Same issue...

Lights came on yesterday for my wife and I guess it went into limp mode (drove very weakly). Took it to mechanic who said to take it to Lexus--that they'll cover it. It's a 2011 with 76K miles. Of course, they said they wouldn't. So now I have the 48 hour wait with Lexus Customer Care. Will see what happens. In the meantime, I ordered the filter from Amazon, hoping to ease future risk... Do appreciate y'alls time posting everything here. Very helpful. This is my 3rd Lexus. Hopefully they'll do the right thing...

Thanks guys, my filter comes in on Friday and I hope to get it installed this weekend. This is my first Lexus (though there are several in my family). Switched from BMW in hopes to keep my car to 150k+ miles with no problems. This seems to be one of the weaker points of the GX so hopefully no issues after that.

I've already completed the UNI filter upgrade as a precaution. Upon inspecting the 3 yrs old OEM foam filter, it was still in excellent condition.

Perhaps, the problem could be from the engine being pressure washed and the water getting inside the 2nd air intake pump causing the foam to become soften and deteriorated.

Have any GX460 owners washed their engines and used any engine cleaners?

Please tell us more on this. Thanks.

The code just popped up one day. I limped it to the dealer and they wanted to replace both valves and the pump at my cost--$2500 I believe.

I replaced both valves purchased off EBAY and all is well. I did try the bypass circuit from ebay but continued to get limp mode.

My code was bank 1, but I changed them both. I recently did the filter mod and my old filter was intact and in the correct position.

First Lexus was the 2000 LX 470. 206K miles. Was starting to get some AC issues, but nothing significant otherwise. Love the wife's GX (2011 GX460) and even more my 2006 GS 430. Awesome machines, and I think this is an isolated incident/item for the GX. I think you'll be amazed at the durability over the long haul vs your BMWs. Don't get me wrong. Love some of the BMWs and Mercs, but duration wise, I don't think you can beat a Lexus.

Just had this same issue happen on our 2011. Indicator lights came on, went into limp mode at 72k. My dealer called Lexus and they won't honor the emissions warranty because we live in Indiana.

Thanks for updating! It seems these valves are fragile by nature, and the filters being sucked through are a symptom and not the disease.

Glad to know at least we can change these valves ourselves without having to shell out $2k.

I spoke to a Lexus service adviser today about something else and asked if they have experienced several cases of this. She said they have had at least 3 in the past 3 months. I asked why the filter still has the same design with the known problem and of course I got the

I got my filter in today and saw that it took some members under 30 minutes to install so I figured I would give it a shot. Thanks to the link 11gx460 posted and tecman's pics I was able to get it done pretty quickly. The oem filter in my 2012 was perfect at 54,000 miles but better safe than sorry. Thanks to all that contributed to this thread, now I can hopefully get another 100k+ uneventful miles out of my car (though I do have the premium and will likely have to deal with the air suspension at some point).

I dont quite get it though. I thought the issue at hand was a cheap foamy filter? Your mileage value and observations seem to go against that. So is the problem the filter or the valve

Likely the filter. My engine bay didn't seem like it has been cleaned before. I just bought my car 7000 miles ago. Perhaps it becomes a problem when exposed to moisture.

Know the last post is about two months old but I am having this exact same problem on my 2012 GX 460 with 71K miles on it. Took it to the dealership after the lights came on. they did a health ck and the P2445 code showed up. Service tech told me out of warranty and that he would not be able to work on the car until 20 July--its 9 July today! Also he won't order the parts until he is sure that is what it is. Like others, I am not too happy with this level of service and to hear what this costs to repair. Expected a lot more for a $60K car only a little over 1500 miles out of warranty. I too called customer service and they are opening a case. I would like to get a copy of the service bulletin mentioned in psolov's post above if I could.

I feel your pain. Did the code throw you into limp mode? If you are the least bit handy this is a pretty simple repair. I know that's not what you want to hear right now!

Issues with Secondary Air Injection System - SAIS have been around for years in multiple Toyota/Lexus models.
It's documented on ih8mud, tundra, FJ, sequoia, 4Runner forums. I have yet to have the fault on my 2010 GX, but it looks like the odds are stacked against me.
I am interested in the aftermarket SAIS By-pass module offered by Hewitt Technologies. They offer a kit for the 1UR-FE GX460. Has anyone on this forum installed one and can share insight?
GeoDes this may be an option for you.

I didn't even realize a kit had been made for the 4.6L. The last I checked one wasn't available and those who tried the one for the 4.7L couldn't get it to work.
