Seriously, that MPG is just ridiculous!

I've had my 2010 for a little over a month now and with 90% city driving I can barely get to a 15mpg average. Coming from a GS350, I can tell you that I'm driving extremely conservatively. Almost to the point where I feel like people behind me are getting annoyed that I'm leaving the light so slow.

That is an outlier. Don't consider that reasonable.

Just drive the car/truck. If MPGs are your goal, you're buying the wrong vehicle.

very true jtrue28. i knew going into this ride that mpg's were going to be low especially with a lead foot. if I can average 15mpg with primarily city driving i'll be happy - especially since that's what's advertised.

i have gotten up to 22/23mpg plus on a highway trip fully loaded which is great for this 5,000lb v8. i just know i can't mash the throttle like i used to in my GS.

15 is about what I average. Mixture of light highway and stop/go traffic.

I also drive it hard and try to avoid braking. I use the transmission for braking as much as I can, which likely hurts my MPGs.

My average alway shown 18-19.2 mpg, but today i filled up 20 gallons of premium grade 93, and reset the trip A to 0, will see how many miles i will get out of that 20 gallons

24 mpg driving from DC to Connecticut.

Calculated with the trip ODO and filling up the tank. No traffic. Used the cruise control most of the way.

Nice. I've done about 23MPG with some partial slow downs heading to Palm Springs. Not bad for a 5000lb vehicle.

Most do well on the open highway. The V8, 6 speed tranny, and sheer weight kills the mpg in stop and go traffic. I do not understand the concern about mpg. You are buying a heavy, full time 4 wheel drive vehicle with a V8. If mileage where your concern you should have looked into another vehicle. A few extra bucks per fill up does not concern me as I purchased this vehicle for a reason.

I wouldn't call it a concern - more like a tip of the hat for the fact that a 5000lb truck with a v8 can achieve decent gas mileage.

I agree. I returned from a 2500 mile road trip with the trailer hitch cargo box and achieved 20.5 mpg average over all of it. That's way beyond what I expected when I bought the GX. It was also averaging 80 MPH. Very happy with the GX, and this average was a bonus.

In y'all's experience, where is the sweet spot for highway driving?

I've only had mine a couple few thousand miles so far. It's difficult for me to tell since the instant readout is a bar and not a number, but it seems like 75-80MPH cruising yields over 20MPG (21-24 instant?) whereas if you get into the 85-90MPH territory it really plummets to something like 15-16 MPG.

If I get on the interstate right after fueling, I can get my average readout over 20 if I keep the speed in the 70s which was pretty surprising to me given how big this thing is. I know a true hypermiler would keep it at a constant 60MPH with the tires aired up to 50lbs and a/c off but I can't bring myself to drive quite so penuriously.

Around town I'm very satisfied with 16-17 MPG but on a road trip having to stop a hundred miles sooner for gas everytime would eat into any time savings of faster travel.

With a 23 gallon tank and 20 hwy MPG, a range of 400mi should be easily achievable but it seems like the gauge is keen to read 0 when there are still several gallons left of reserve.

Just yesterday, drove from West Palm beach to Atlanta, 4 adults, cargo area full of luggage, cruise at 80 with occasional bursts to 85 to 95. 345 miles when fuel light came on. Filled it up, calculated mileage, 18.8 mpg.

I don't get anything near 20mpg (my overall average is 16) but I've also noticed that there is significant margin between the fuel gauge and what's actually in the tank.
