Default Newbie Questions for my new GX460

A little info just upgraded from my Sequoia to the GX460 same engine but wow what a difference, our second car is an ES350. We were debating between Cayenne and the GX my wife and I both agreed while the Cayenne is awesome looking the drive of the GX just won us over.

Questions.

1. I have a 23 foot pontoon that I don't tow regularly. My GX did not come with the factory tow hitch receiver on it. The OEM is Class IV rated and the aftermarket Curt brand is Class III which the dealership tried to sell me. The boat max weight etc with everything gas, equipment was estimated around 4600LBS. I have a friend with a body shop saying he can install the OEM for me for $450 and the Curt one under $200. I was thinking just spend the money in case i do end up getting something larger to tow. Suggestions/Opinions?

2. We had the clear bra on the Sequoia and loved the fact we never had chips, etc. Our ES didn't have it and the hood bumper have a ton of chips. Do you recommend it, and if so do you recommend just the hood, fenders or the full hood fenders, bumper, mirrors, fog lights, lights? Im getting the full for $500 from a friend, also you recommend the door guards?

3. What all weather matts do you recommend.

4. Any issues with installing a K&N air filter?

5. The sales person said you can remote start the vehicle with the remote app, but the technology person said you couldn't. But thats coming from people who didnt know the car had the rear cross traffic alert and the power folding mirrors.

Glad to be a GX owner, buying the leather cleaner as we speak we got the Nebula Gray with ECRU interior.

My opinion here....

Class 3 will be fine

I have the K&N and have had no issues.

I have the dealer installed clear bra on the hood, front bumper and mirrors and love it, 38k and no rock chips yet

I had a Viper remote start installed by an aftermarket installer, it's just a module that activates the OEM remote start, again, no problems at all.

Weathertech mats seem to be the most popular in all vehicles, not just the GX.

Enjoy your new GX!

I have the K&N air filter also with no problems.
I don't have a clear bra and currently have 65,000 miles and the front end is chipped.

Thanks for the feedback, checking with the boat dealer just to make sure. Seems like the Curt is easy to install as well.

Ordering the K&N as we speak, in other post said something regarding you have to be careful with the oil, is that the cleaning spray for the filter any experience with it will help, dont want to mess up anything

Does anyone install the clear bra on the headlights or foglights seems overkill for me but figured I would ask. Also, for the clear bra, did you use 3m, Ventureshield/Invisalign, or some other brand?

Thanks again

The over oiling concern is when it is necessary to clean the filter.

I put headlight protection on my GX.

I'd stick to the OEM air filter. Nothing to be gained with a K&N except more dirt in the engine.

do NOT have the dealer do it. I went to a detailing place and had my whole gx covered with Xpel ultimate. The dealers overcharge for small areas being covered, and they dont use the best clear bra

whats the point of the k and n filter. it doesnt do anything. Dont u think lexus would of put one on if it increased performance?

A K&N Filter does increase performance, but also increase the engine roar, aka noise, at WOT (Wide Open Throttle), which some may or may not prefer. Most manufacturers do not include one as OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) because a high performance filter costs a lot more (initially) and involves the hassle of the owner having to clean and re-oil it.

Thank you for saying that, I was having a hard time at being nice in a typed response. K&N filters do help a lot, better throttle response and increased HP and a lifetime filter. I have been using them since the early 90's and it was the first thing I did to me GX.

Default Newbies Questions for my GX

T4FUN. Do not include "all dealers" overcharge and they do not use a good product. After I made my offer for the vehicle and they agreed, I had them throw in the clear bra. It is bumpers, hood, fenders, rear view mirrors and the cupped areas behind the door handles and the door edges on each door. It is made by 3M, one of the best on the market, and it comes with a 5 year complete warranty. My dealer uses an outside detail shop to do the work and this is my third Lexus using this product and they have held up beautifully. I am sure there are some dealers who will go cheap on you. The dealer I buy from is rated an "elite dealership" and have never had a hassle with them. In total, I have purchased 4 new Lexus vehicles, and could not have had a better experience than this dealership.

I had the k&n on my sequoia increase power and my gas mileage. the roar factor was more but only when I pushed.

Probably going with xpel my buddy has a body shop he has contacts to get it done at a good price for me if not will do invisishield.

Just ordered the class 3 curt hitch autoanything for 83$ shipped promo code 20welcome.

Loving the ride so far. Having issues with pandora and my account for the enform apps.

The GX's do not have the availability to use the Lexus Enform Remote app. I work at a Lexus dealer as a Delivery Specialist and I see this problem all the time. It's very complicated knowing which Lexus vehicles that do come with the Enform Remote app and which ones that don't. Most sales people don't fully understand the differences between all the models so that's what my job is. In fact, none of our SUV's come with the remote start app except the new NX. The LX is getting a refresh later this year and the RX is getting a complete redesign later this year. Both models should come with the Enform Remote start app.

The dealer can add the OEM remote start to your GX that uses your key fob to start the vehicle if you want to go that route.

I'm confused. Is RES+ different than the Enform Remote app?

I have 3M on my GX and Expel Ultimate on the GTR. No comparison between 3M (including their new self healing film) and Expel Ultimate, Expel is way better and you can't even tell there is a clear bra on. 3M has a lot of catching up to do on clear bras.

As for the OP, I personally get the headlights/foglights done on all of my cars because over time they get pitted or chipped from road debris.
