have bought my new GX 460 for 6 months,
time for the first 5k/6month maintenance.
it has only 3100 miles on it.

Lexus dealer performs the 5k/6month maintenance.
now GUESS:
do you think the dealer would perform an oil change or not ?

I would guess NO oil change at the first free maintenance. The first oil change is due at the 2nd maintenance (10,000 miles).

If you offered to pay for the oil change, I would think they would do it.

Correct.. I only found it out after the 5k/service.

a bit surprise that the oil was not changed...

so basically a nice car wash, reset the reminder, and checking around..

Yeah its defies logic of old practice...no oil change with the new synthetics...but that's what MB did with my car too... got extended warranty jic...

Mercedes has longer service interval, one year or 13k, service A/B,
one oil change per year..

I ALWAYS wonder about the potential FREE oil change and so LAZY to call my salesman about that.

So, does LEXUS pay for the first oil change (10k miles) or does Lexus pay for the first 5k miles service?

Lexus now covers the first 2 maintenance.

1st Maint (6 mo. or 5k miles): Rotate Tires, Basic Inspection
2nd Maint (12 mo. ro 10K miles): Oil Change, Rotate Tires, Basic Inspection

they dont change oil.
they wash it if you want.
rotate tires.
check everything.
thats it.

Why are people all up tight about changing their oil at the 5000 mile mark. 10,000 is the recommended and Lexus warranties the vehicles for 70,000 miles under this schedule. My previous two vehicles plus a Toyota 4RUNNER were on the 10,000 mile schedule. It you do heavy towing or mostly stop and go traffic there might be a reason to do it earlier. A study was done a few years back on NYC Taxi cabs on the 10,000 miles synthetic schedule, and the oil showed no reasons why it should have been changed earlier. Save your money! We no longer use dino oil and live in the 60's and 70's. In fact, I started using AMSOIL fulll synthetic oil back in 1981. The company warranted it for 25,000 mile intervals. I lived in the hot California valley at the time and I changed it at 10 to 12 thousand mile mark. The oil still tested good, but the old habits were hard to break. Now 10,000 is very conservative.

That must be new cause everytime i get service A or B, my car gets reset to 10k.
